He just posted on facebook that Werner has passed away.  Some of you may remember Werner from Germany, as he has attended both Inzane and Cheaha before.  I do not know any details, I just came across this information.  Maybe Andy will update us.

Rest in Peace Werner!

oh my goodness............  that's shocking.

I'll make sure we make an announcment up on Cheaha and have  moment of silence for him in his honor. He was a fun guy to be with. He came to Cheaha twice. Very kind....very good person........

I hope Andy can update us with more info.......

I'm speechless... I rode with him (and his wife, I think) at the Brasstown Bald ride
a couple of years ago... Smokin' Joe was there, feeling all cruddy, the next day
we learned that his lung had collapsed...

Godspeed Werner...

RIP Werner.

We only met one time, but that 1st impression was a GOOD ONE.

Ride on Brother, we will all be up to visit you sometime in the future.

We will have to have a large party as Strider would say.

I'am still in a shock to what is hapend so please be lenient whit my speeling.

It is such a tragedy. He was swimming Sunday morning as usual when he did not came up after a turn.
The pool attendant and a friend did a Cardiopulmonary resuscitation after about a minute he was under water and keeled over.
He had a heart beat when they arrived in the Hospital but no Vital signs.

Yesterday at 07:00 PM Gudrun his Wife called me and told that Werner deceased.

We lost a good friend and can't still belive it.

I copied and translated this from the German VRCC Board. So sad!

German to English translation

A dramatic drowning accident, ended suddenly for us all and far too early, his eventful life.
His sudden departure from the stage of life leaves us with horror, sorrow and a great void, because Werner was not only a husband, father, friend and neighbor.

No, Werner Schafer was a doer. He was always with, was always at the forefront.
Whether in the family, the company where the shooter in the table tennis club or in our VRCC, Werner with him, he cared, he coined. Nothing seemed too much or too heavy, he seized and made.

Werner was happy friend and Werner was like friends and to his friends he sought.

Werner Schaefer was not a quiet man, Werner Schäfer was loud, always in action, everywhere. Was there somewhere, a stage and a microphone, they belonged to him. He was to be the center, he loved another with his actions and deeds, make with his words and anecdotes joy.

Unforgettable are his three VRCC meeting in Lüben, Giffin and Brunswick, which he organized with his friend Ede for us never forget his dancing slippers, remembered his many appearances on so many a meeting.

Werner Schaefer who got to know closely, white, Werner could call you at any time. If Werner had the time and could help, it helped. Werner always had time for friends, and when he had none, he took it easily.

But Werner Schäfer you were not alone. belonged to Werner Schäfer (s) more. Add to Gudrun Werner were among his great love and pride Marc and Mona. I can not remember a meeting with him where he did not tell full of love and concern of Gudrun and to brag about his children Marc and Mona.

On Sunday, Werner drove the last time on his "F6" to the swimming pool from which he never returned again.

It has been Werner's wish that as many VRCC'ler accompany him on his final journey. Once again, he will feel our community and experience our bikes that we have brought together. The funeral will be on a Saturday. Once the date is set it will be posted here.

Gudrun, Marc and Mona thank you all for your sympathy.

The family hopes that this contribution will be closed and other expressions of sympathy and more sympathy in a new thread.

His DO NOT TOUCH is on my Valkyrie and he got a kick out of the powwow shirt which is my avatar i sent him a few years ago

Now I shall not get to ride with him until we all meet on the other side of eternity.

Rest in peace my friend     Live large and live well my brothers

Werner was always the life of the party, esp at Cheaha, at the old Pavillion.

Where I first,,,,, along with a lot of you,, met him.

I really liked that dude, life is so short.

But mine and others lives were enrichened,,, by knowing this Jovial German Man.

I will miss him.

Thanks Andy  cooldude

So that is pretty much it as translated above. Werner was swimming laps, did his dive to turn around and didn't come up. They went in after him, pulled him out, did cpr and got the ambulance.

On the way to the hospital they lost all vitals except his heart was still beating. They kept him on a machine since Sunday, but no hope.

They think maybe a brain shock. Not sure.

Service on Saturday and all are invited.

Andy - did you say on Saturday the 28th? It took me a while to let that set in - or did I get it wrong and it is this Saturday, the 14th?

Hate to see him go.
