Looking at a GOPRO camera, HD motorsports version. Anybody have one, using one? If so are you mounting it on the bike, helmet, windshield, handlebars?? Any way to take still pictures while riding? I've seen other videos done by the camera, such as mountain bikes and the video looks good. Also looking at there LCD Bacpac screen, if you have one does it work well? Pros and cons? Any input would be appreciated.

Go Pro HD is the way to go.  Lots of mounting options, great pictures, good storage capacity, and capture options like time lapse.  Friend has one... I'll see if I can scare up some video.

I dont have one of those but I have some handy sunglasses that take videos.  I-Kam Extreme.  Here is a link to a youtube video I took with them.  Not HD, but pretty good for $100.

Typical GSSF Match Stagespowered by Aeva

BTW, my slow shooting in that is the result of scoring that penalizes so heavily for any problems with accuracy.   Im a bit self conscious about that LOL.  I was playing it safe.  I normally shoot much faster but this "game" hits ya hard for any spraying.

I got my set off of ebay.  Hope that saves ya some cash.  Quality is decent but definately not HD.

I sure do like the quality of the HD gopro, but all the HD ones I know of also have
"fisheye" lenses, I don't much like that. Here's a video and a still shot from
my older 3 megapixel gopro... It makes somewhat better quality video than what you
see here, but by the time I thrash around editing it and transmogrifying its format and
download it to youtube, this is what's left...

I've hooked my camera to all kinds of places... pointing forwards, pointing backwards... I plan
to stick one of the mount doodads onto my FB or clutch caliper top and see how that goes next.

Here's backwards...

I have an older GoPro Hero and I really like it.  I have used it for the woods and street/track, helmet mounted and bike mounted.  Makes great video.  Get the best AAA batteries you can find (ulimate lithium?) and replace them ever couple of hours or it will always die during what would be the greatest video you ever shot!

I've been having fun learning to use my GoPro HD.  I'm still experimenting with mounts, locations, etc., but I am very impressed with the kit.

Here's another choice. Not dissing the Hero, just showing another option. http://contour.com/ It has good ratings but a slight bit more $$$.

I've probably had my gopro three years... the first thing I did was to spend $20 to get
a four-set of rechargeable batteries plus a charger... still using the same batteries... It
takes two batteries to run my gopro, so I usually go on a trip with two sd cards and two
sets of batteries. The battery charge lasts longer than it takes to fill up an sd card, so I
just change the batteries when I put in the other sd card...

I'm sure the Contour in a fine camera, but I don't thing it comes with a case to protect the lens from road debris/damage.

They seem to have a case available as an option... reminds me a lot of the gopro case, judging from
the picture...

Thanks for all the input. I like the size of the contour but its only Video. Leaning toward the GOPRO becuase will do stills, single shot capture mode and video. Helmut mount seams awkward to me going down the road. Looks like Hubcapsc has his mounting on the engine crash bar, looks like a good location.
Lot of thinking to do. Thanks again. Undecided

I picked up a GoPro HD several months ago and took it out once, bought a handfull of mounts but have only used it once.

It does suck up significant mb & gb space so my old Dell wouldn't really work well with it.

I've since upgraded my computer but still haven't done anything with the camera or original film clip.  Roll Eyes

Could go up for sale if I don't do something with it soon.

Another member of our ride had the Contour.  GoPro wins flatout, hands down.  Google Contour... lots of issues.
