Just a suggestion..... give her 5-10 grand to elope.

Of course, first time brides (and their mothers) rarely like this idea.

Most dads who have been through the months of aggravation, planning, weeping, contracts, expenses, family feuds, hotels, flowers, dresses, tux rentals,  yada..... think it's a capital idea.    Evil

I could be wrong.

Umm, Wanderer might want to chime in here about his trip last month to walk his daughter down the sand...

Wife and I got married in Negril Jamaica - PERFECT for "US"....her sister and brother in law joined us for the week.  Everyone else stayed home and wished us the very best....2nd time for both of us and we both had the "traditional" wedding the first time around....both like the 2nd one MUCH better...no hassles, no bickering, no problems......if anyone had any problems with our choice it was exactly that - THEIR problem....no one complained and everyone seemed happy with our choice....highly recommend it but if they haven't had the "traditional" wedding it might be difficult convincing them for the short version.   Money saved by going small could be better spent on setting up house in these tough economic times.   M'be have a very SMALL informal gathering when they return.  My 2+ cents and I'm sticking to it..... seems like more and more couples are opting for island weddings...saw at least one per day (sometimes more) while in Punta Cana at an all-inclusive last January....some were very small and others included a wedding party.....Good Luck !

My son and his bride were married on the beach in Deston, FL. Beautiful white sands and fairly close and inexpensive.

Or, even closer with a "beach" at the lake = Lantana Lodge right here in north Texas and the destination of many a good motorcycle ride. Wedding out by the lake. Reception on the patio. And, if it rains, take it all inside.

Having just recently gone thru this, I can tell you it is all already beyond your control. My best advice - relax and take it as it comes.

Jess has your chrome budget and retirement in mind - throwing some money at an elopement has got to be the cheapest way out! SideCar's input is also very sound advice, as always, as "Plan B", BUT, "Plan C" really wants to be anything other than a destination wedding for the entire family to some far away island. You might even try to explain, in confidence of coarse, that your Parole Officer will not allow you out of the county to give her away. All these are worth a try. Google for more work arounds, but prepare yourself for the full blown "once in a lifetime" (we can hope and pray) event. After all, you have been putting away a little green in an account since she was little and cute, right!

Keep us posted on your progress or lack of, please, and congratulations, Jim! ~Jeff

Thank you everyone for all the advice.  After carefully looking at all our options, cussing and discussing,  Shocked at what wedding cost these days, we decided to give them a certain amount and if they spend under that then they can put it in to a new home or whatever, if they spend over that then they are responsible for the rest.  We bought our first home for less.  I understand that was 36 years ago, but geeh.  Grin
Thanks again everyone

Not that I know of anyway, but we look so much alike when I wear my blonde wig and heals you would mistake us for sisters. Of coarse, I am the prettiest!  Kiss ~Jeff

Ain't that the thang with all that type of thang, Mr. M! How else do we end up in five inch stilettos, or on a Phat Lady (finally Valk related)?

Pictures, Jess, really? I'll show you mine if  Never mind. I can't go there either! ~Jeff
