What does the data say?

Corinth, Texas

« on: May 19, 2011, 03:02:21 PM »

Left Monday morning on the bike headed for Allentown, PA.  Got there about 10:30 pm CST Tuesday night.

Map miles: 1489.2.  ET 38 1/2 hours.  Almost an IBA Bun Burner 1500.

I'm glad I didn't try for the certification though.  Monday was against the wind all day -- mileage ranged from 26 MPG to 30 MPG.  Tuesday, it started raining within the first 200 miles and was pretty much wet the whole rest of the way.  Making time just wasn't on the agenda.

Another time...

P.S.  Hoghead: DS hydroplaning did not occur.

Thanks.  I've come to accept that a head or front-quartering wind will knock 5 MPG off my average MPG.  Combined with interstate speeds, I plan stops every 100 miles.

When I was riding in the storm Friday night  and the winds were kicking me around I wondered if i would have been as comfortable with a CT. Glad to here you had a safe trip. I am doing my tire change today. Took it apart yesterday.doing all the mods. Got the ring from Disco. I'm going to a seal supplier in Longview today that has almost anything you can imagine in seals and such and see if i can find something better. Did the nutcage mod. Ran from the back side with the lags. It is still a pain to make the boltgo through the fenders. I'm thinking about marrying them and making a one piece fender to eleminate that problem. See you in a couple weeks, Matt

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I would stay away from a one piece fender.  I have taken the back half of my fender off more than once to make it easier to get the rear tire off.  Not a big deal when you're in a well equipped shop that can raise the body up high enough, but on the road, when you might not have a lot of options, removing the fender could come in handy.
Maybe you can come up with a stud config instead of the bolt.

Yeah that was a thought also Rock. I was not going to do a permanent marry. I was going to be able to take it apart if needed.

When I swapped the bolt out and put it in from the inside, I took great care to keep from disturbing any of the parts connected to the fender bolt hole.  I immediately slid out the bolt and followed right behind it with the bolt from the inside.  Just had to hold my mouth right and it went right thru.
