Hi. I'm adding a PIAA Multi-fit 005 light kit to my 1998 Honda Valkyrie Tourer. All I have left is the wiring - which is where I'm stumped. The instructions say to connect PIAA's switch power lead to the ignition switch positive wire (so that the lights will operate any time the ignition switch is on). I have a Honda Service manual - but I can't for the life of me figure out which wire is positive (the wires coming out of the switch). Can anyone shed some 'light' on this subject? :-)  Thanks. Keith

I used this schematic as my guide when I hooked up my driving lights...

I think the "any wire with power" wire is the wire you're looking for, if I understand your
question.

You could use the ACC wire behind the right side cover.

I didn't add an extra switch to my driving lights, and used the blue wire that goes to
the headlight for my "any" wire, and my driving lights only come on when I hit high beam.

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!  Not unless you want to burn out your start button.  The best thing to do is tap the wire running from the start button to the hi/lo switch.  Use that to activate a relay which supplies power from your battery to the lights.  This way you increase the load on your start button minimally.  The wiring harness wasn't designed to handle any additional load.  It barely handles the headlight.  An advantage to wiring you lights the way I described will make the lights go out when you push the start button.

Thanks for the input!
The insructions from PIAA say there 4 options for connecting the switch power lead: 1) connect to ignition switch positive wire (aux lights will operate any time the ignition is on). 2) Connect to high beam positive wire (aux lights will only operate on high beam). 3) Connect to low beam positive wire (aux lights will only operate on low beam). 4) connect to battery or light coil positive.

I think hubcap was tapping the trigger leg (signal leg) for his relay off the headlight.  That would put almost no extra loading on it.  He was describing it the same way you did, except he took it after the high/low rather than before it.

[did I misunderstand??]

That red wire is powering a relay isn't it?

kmatter1234, now I have questions for you.

You bought the PIAA multifit honda 005 kit, with wiring harness supplied?

Did you use the fender strut mount elbows, and if so, were the bolts the correct length?

If not, how did you mount them?

I have about decided to use the PIAA honda mutifit kit 1100Xs on an interstate.   The chrome 005s look much better, but the silver/grey plastic 1100xs are much better lights.  When looiking into this a while back, I seem to remember being told the fender strut mount bolts were too short for valk, but the memory is failing.

Jess from VA:
Yes - the chrome on the 005s is just average. When tightening the brackets which mount to the lights, the chrome is easily damaged. Overall, though, I'm still relatively happy with the quality. I purchased the 005 light kit on ebay for about $100; not bad considering the retail is $250 or something like that.
I fiddled around trying to figure out where to mount them. Lower ... higher ... on the triple tree .... They didn't seem to fit / look right when mounted on the forks - because of the OEM fork covers kind of getting in the way.
I do not believe the OEM bolts would be long enough. Fortunately, I have a whole bunch of stainless and chrome metric bolts laying around - so I wasn't worried about whether the OEM bolts would be long enough.
I decided to mount them on the brake caliper covers. I have aftermarket brake caliper covers - and they seem to look and fit best there. (I used the top bolt.) I had to get a slightly longer bolt to accomodate the light bracket.
They look and function great! I'm very happy - considering I only have a hundred bucks invested in them.

Thanks.  I think you did good mounting them low and away from the headlight.  I have motolights on my calipers on my other bike (on all the time), but won't be paying those prices for my 2d bike.

A picture would be nice.
