Up till now I've always taken my tourer to the stealer when it came time for a new tire, but now that I've got a m/c jack I decided instead to pull the wheels myself. When I got the rear off last night I went looking for the 3 o-rings, but only found 2. I came back here to review the 'elusive third o-ring' post to make sure I wasn't missing something, and sure enough, the 'elusive' one was there. Evidently during one of the previous visits to the shop the o-ring on the shoulder of the wheel went MIA and was never replaced.  ???  Luckily all appears okay and the splines were still wet with something (moly or grease, not sure which).

This brings up a point made in a previous post that said not to trust that the stealer will always do a proper spline lube, even when they say they did. Caveat emptor!

Took a while to get everything cleaned up, but again, I'm glad I did it myself because I know the job will be done right, and I know my girl that much better. After reviewing the many posts here I believe I'm going to use BelRay WP everywhere on reassembly.

Looking forward to polishing the rims now.....

I've owned my '97 for almost 12 years...  Every time I do something as far as 'fixin', I learn something new...  It is always good to know that if ya get in a bit deeper than your knowledge base can cover, you've got some mighty fine folks around here always willing to help, if not on the board, sometimes in person (thanks to Jim C, for the use of the infared thermometer this past weekend)...

Just another reason to hate this club  Wink

The more ya know about the Phat Gurl, the more confident ya get...  Feels good knowing the job is done right  cooldude

Good feeling-not only gettin the job done-but gettin the job done RIGHT. This board made that possible for me to acomplish both of those goals. You can look in the service manuals(i did) but having access to all the hands on experience that is available right here-the been there done that-that is totally priceless. Also the fact that every one on this board loves these fat ladys as much as we do-that in and of itself is beyond description. Do not ever be afraid to ask the question you can't get answered after researching it. Some one at least has run up on the problem-and hopefully the solution before we did. Most-if not all tha problems with this dragon that we get the grins and yuks from are right here. O-k off the soap box and back to our regurally scheduled programing. RIDE SAFE.
