My valk is pretty new to me..got it last fall (97 Standard).  It has been slightly slow to return to idle but runs great other wise.  This is a new thing I think....never noticed it before.  Vac leak?  What do you think....where do I start to look.

Thanks
Tom

your carbs need sync'd..uneven syncronization of the carbs will almost always make it slow to return to idle..every valk i have worked on that was like that..even mine..after i sync'd the carbs and set the idle at 900 it returned perfectly..if your idle is over 1000 it will return slow to.

I suggest lubricating everything connected with the throttle and carburetors.

Work it good, with plenty of lubricant. the spray stuff is great!

Make sure the cables aren't binding, same with the throttle.

Spray all the linkages and spring assemblies.

check that you have a little play in the throttle(the book calls for 1/8 in)
too tight and it will bind up.

Found it a vacuum line off a carb...looked old and dry rotted.  Conected to the carb bowl...Gona do the desmog I think to eliminate as many of the vac lines as I can.

any line connected to the carb bowl is a vent line to atmosphere to vent the bowl. this besides the bowl drain lines.

If the throttle is lightly blipped” at idle, and the rpm drops below the set idle speed, then rises up to the set idle speed, the low speed mixture screws are probably set too rich: try 1/2turn in, to lean the idle mixture. A rich mixture gets worse as the engine heats up.

If the throttle is lightly “blipped” at idle, and the rpm “hangs up” before dropping to the set idle speed, and there are no intake leaks and the idle speed is set to less than 1000 rpm, the mixture screws are probably too lean: try 1/2 turn out, to richen mixture. Be sure there are no intake leaks and the idle speed is set at less than 1000 rpm.
