I'm getting ready to install the I'state tank on my standard. I've heard I can pull the front of the cover off the stock seat, and cut some of the foam away, and it won't "bunch up" so much. I hesitate, because it seems to me, that the beaded seam would be in a funny place, that way. Anyone done that, and have pics of how it looks?

What did you do? Does anyone make a seat specifically for that set up? If not, does someone make just a cover, specifically for it? Or do I just do the best I can, live with it, and be happy with the added miles I'll get out of the tank??

Roger, what seat are you currently using?  Mustang says their seats will fit all Valkyries so they don't make an Interstate specific seat.  Ultimate makes an Interstate specific front seat.

It just dawned on me that I have an unused, still in the plastic Ultimate Big Boy Interstate front seat that I bought about this time last year for when I did buy an Interstate.  When I got my Interstate, it already had a full set of gray Ultimates on it.  If you're interested shoot me an email or pm

Marty - PM'd you.

Looked at the site, seems the biggest difference, is the Ultimate standard is lower/longer in front, to make up for the difference in the tank. They say that the rear seat is the same as the standard, and that the "stock" Interstate seat is a one-piece, but theirs is a two-piece. So, I'm guessing that a stock Interstate seat will fit a standard with an Interstate tank, perfectly! I'll give them a buzz tomorrow, to be sure.

Thx,

Roger

I sense a little confusion here so I'll point out that the tanks all mount to the same bolt holes which would indicate that volume differences are accommodated in tank height and width and not with the length of the tanks.

A stock Honda seats mount with the same configuration and lock in the same lock mechanism which would indicate they are all interchangeable with each other.

The stock Interstate seat is a one piece deal that combines rider and passenger into a long seat that utilizes and additional fastening point in the very rear which nestles in the trunk frame.

I have the two piece seats that are found on the standard/tourer mounted on my interstate and find no problem whatsoever, interference nor gap!

The problems that may be encountered will be with the aftermarket seats that usually are not as well designed in the fit-to-bike areas.

I've got an I/S Tank, on my Standard, and am now using an Ultimate Big Boy seat made for an I/S...  Previously, I had a Mustang seat, with the I/S tank...  The differences I could see are as follow:

Ultimate seat was made for an I/S (I believe, as I purchased it used), and fits very well.  Snug, where the seat meets the tank, but not too tight.

Mustang seat also fit well with the I/S tank, if not a bit tighter where tank meets seat.

The solo drivers seats, be it after market (Mustang and Ultimate) or stock Honda will fit both the Standard/Tour tank and the I/S tank...  The difference being where the front of the seat meets the tank, and a S/T seat will be very tight/snug at that point, if using an I/S tank (seat cover may look a bit scrunched or wrinkled at the nose).  As for the stock, one piece, I/S seat...  I've heard of some that have put one on a S/T, but I am not familiar with what needs to be done so it fits.

For the record, the Ultimate Big Boy (not the King) fits me quite well.  I'm 6'2" and weigh about 270, with a 33" inseam.

I had a bigboy standard seat on my interstate for a while. To keep it from wrinkling in the front, I put a couple washers between the seat and the seat latch. This raised the seat just enough so the seat didnt push down on the tank while it was latched.

Unless it's been modified, the 2000+ OEM seat for a Standard (or Tourer) will bunch up where the nose is designed to lay against and over the Standard (or Tourer) tank.

The pillion should fit fine, but, as noted, has mount points differing from those of the Interstate seat.

Going the other way, yes, the Interstate seat will perfectly fit a Standard with an Interstate tank, but the attachment at the rear will not be the same.

Sorry so slow in responding - thanks all!!

Ricky-D - while it's correct that the bolt holes are the same, the difference is about an inch ABOVE the rear bolt hole. The standard tank, at that point, begins it's angle towards the front of the tank, whilst on the Interstate tank, that angle doesn't begin for maybe 2-1/2 inches. That's where they get SOME of the added capacity. So, if the standard seat, be it stock or aftermarket, is made to lay on TOP of the angle on the standard tank, an inch above the hole, then it will butt up against the straight up and down on the Interstate tank, that's there. In essence, the bolt holes are the same distance apart, but at 2 inches ABOVE the bolt holes, the Interstate tank is longer.

I'm looking at my options - I can't in any way afford the Russell seat, without having to pack all my belongings on the Valk and trailer, and "move in".  Grin  I like the looks, and from what I've been told, will like the Ultimate MUCH better than the stock seat. The stock seat isn't bad, but has had two owners, and have been molded to THEIR arses, and not mine. There are a few "sore spots" because of that. I considered a gel insert, and have had them on my Wings, but I think I'm ready for a serious NICE seat, not just a "that's ok" seat.

Thanks again, to all...

Roger,
I have an interstate tank on my standard and the original seat fits just fine, with no bunching at the front that like some people have experienced.
