It made a mess of my windshield Angry

They are heavy birds but once airborne pack quite a punch. Shocked

Fortunately I was in my truck, but the way it just flew up from the side of the road, If I'd been on the bike it would have knocked me off my seat.

Man, you are lucky. The force behind a large bird is amazing. My uncle had a Owl come THRU his windshield and land in his lap. Three broken ribs and a lot of blood all over his Roadmaster.

Saw the aftermath right after a yellow GoldWing smashed into one of those outside Kerrville several years back... VERY messy... Luckily the rider didn't go down, but he was gonna be pulling blood and feathers outta every nook and cranny of his bike for years after the mess that made!

Thank God you weren't on the bike.

I believe the DOT would put you out of service if you weren't already parked Cheesy

I had a driver tell me that a turkey flew into his passenger side window as he was going down the road at 60+. he saw this truck that just passed him weaving all over and raised him on the CB and the other guy told him the turkey was still alive! he pulled over and helped shoo the turkey back to the wild.

(some drivers are just big time story tellers, I'm not saying he's lying but this story is extremely fishy)

I'd agree, but why ruin a good story. The bird would have to be traveling horizontally fast enough to miss the west coast mirror and still hit the open window as well as survive the impact of hitting the back of the cab doing 60 mph.
I parked at the first truck stop I came to and took the photos. I continued after that though for the rest of the trip, another 8 hours before parking the truck and switching to another. The window held together mostly.

The impact wasn't in my area of vision so I figured it was ok. It was on Sunday morning so not many DOT guys around.

I had a wild turkey fly out of a tree and into the windshield on my old 1986 Goldwing about 8 years ago. Scared the crap out of me. Snapped my windshield and lucky for me it was on a rural road and I was only running about 25-30 mph (I was riding with my nephew who was on a honda 70 four wheeler). I didn't go down but had to change my drawers when I got home (LOL). Glad you were in the cage and didn't get hurt.

Yep... looks a lot like my windshield after a crane flew into me at 65 mph!!   Shocked

Hit almost the exact same spot too!!!  Of course, I was only in a pickup... not a semi.

I threw that days underwear away!!!

A wild turkey flew up from the side of the road and just clipped our windshield.... went back and TOOK OUT THE PATROL CAR WINDSHIELD!!!!!!..... I mean into the back seat!!!!!!!!!!!  The officer flipped on his lights , pulled us over and wrote us a ticket!!!!!!

11 years ago this month, I had just got the Chevy Trike out of cold storage.

Changed the oil, filter, blew up all the tires and decided to take her out for a limbering up.

About 2 miles South of me is a super slab bypass.    I pulled up on the ramp, got right after it, and settled in to about 85.     Went up 2 exits and exited so as to turn around and go back home.

The entrance ramp is a long one here and I let the Chevy loose.    Was running about 6,000 RPM's in 3rd gear, was just ready to jab the stick to let it slide into 4th, right at a dollar and a dime at the top when I entered the freeway a rooster Pheasant came up out of  the ditch and hit my aluminum radiator dead center.   I heard the thump, backed off the throttle and kind of eyeballed the damage.    His head was run clear through the core, his beak was pointed right at the engine fan.

Went to stop and saw a small trickle of fluid coming out, so I took off for home, was less than 4 miles away.

Ruined the radiator, had to have Be Cool build me another one to the tune of a Grand.     I noticed yesterday is has a slight seep in the side.   Will have to get that fixed.

The key thing is to wake up breathing! All the rest can be fixed. (Except Stupid - You can't fix that)
