Took my rear wheel in to local Honda dealer. I did have the car tire on it and the new car tire to put on. The girl at the service desk asked what is that off of. I said Valkyrie. She said we only work on Hondas.  I think to myself, won't be bringing my bike here for any repairs. Anyway, I said can I speak to one of the mechanics. He said the same ,0(whats that of off)  but did know what a Valkyrie is. Honda. Said that looks kinda big for a m/c tire. I said I got the large one. He said, well we are kinda slow so I'll change it for you. This dealer is mostly kids that all they MAY know is atvs. and crotch rockets.  Hopefully we can hold onto this site, other wise the valk is no longer known as a Honda. Which i've been lucky not having to take mine in for repairs thanks for this site.

have had the same thing happen to me...

Parts guy: "What kinda bike is it"
Me: "Valkyrie"
PG: "What make?"
Me: "This is a Honda dealership right?"
PG: "Never heard of a Valerie"

Course a lot of those guys that work at parts counters are about as smart as a bag full of hammers, but you'd think they'd at least know the model bikes they've sold in the last 10 years or so...

I don't even go into the local Honda place anymore because the parts folks don't know crap about motorcycles, much less how to accurately order parts for one.

Last time I ordered some hinges for my hardbags, they took a week to come in and where ultra expensive, and then they where the wrong freakin parts. . . I asked the manager "Why would I buy parts from you if you can't get the parts right, you charge me for shipping, markup the parts and I have to drive down here to figure it out?"

Skyline Honda in Waynesville, MO btw...

There are two Honda dealers on the South Side of Edmonton. One specializes in ATVs and quads, so I only go there for fuses and bolts. The other works on Valkyries all the time; in fact when I was getting spare keys cut last year they had a 99 I/S on the table getting a blower installed. I trust them, to a point. They put the rear tire on my old GL1100 backwards. Their explanation was that they thought the rim was from a VTX whos drive is on the left.
What VTX could have a rim that narrow?

4 years ago when I had just purchased my Valk I/S, I was at the Honda shop here in Jacksonville Fl. I decided to go ahead and get some spark plugs and oil filter.
Me - I need spark plugs for a Valkyrie.
Him - Who makes it? ???
Me - Honda.
Him - OK, 2 plugs, will this be all?   coolsmiley
Me - It's 6 plugs.
Him - Only goldwings have 6 plugs, are you getting extra's? Lips Sealed
Me - It's a 6 cylinder
Him - Then you have a Goldwing?  Shocked
Me - No sir, I have a Honda Valkyrie I/S, it has 6 cylinders and it is not a Goldwing  Lips Sealed

That really surprises me. Every time I've been in the Honda dealer in Jax (Atlantic Blvd) they always have a Valk or 2 for sale and always comment on mine and are pretty knowledgable about them.

I must be the lucky ONE. My parts people at our local Honda dealer (Groves) have always been helpful, and with the discount they give me, I typically can't beat there prices on the web.  Cool

In addition to my orig. post. A friend brought me his Valk. To cut it short had a wheel bearing bad. Had took it to a independent m/c shop two weeks earlier and had a rear tire put on. They work on mostly Goldwings. They would have known the bearing bad and also they left out the thrust washer. Also needed dampers. So they evidently just pulled the wheel, put the tire on and didn't ck. bearings or etc. Told him to go there and look under the tables and would find the thrust washer.  So, if I do have a problem that is above my head and do need a shop. She is getting some miles and age on her.  Lord/VRCC help me

For a second there, I thought he was saying you had the wheel installed wrong.  I was trying to imagine someone who thought you had forced the wheel in backwards and hadn't noticed.

I bought my VTX and Valkyrie from Trimbles Honda in Austin MN. Family dealership, dad started it, 2nd oldest Honda dealer in the US. Speedo broke on the Valk after I bought it, they ordered a new one and replaced it for free.  Run by 3 brothers now, one sells, one does parts and the other runs the garage. Honest, fair priced and remember me by name. I drive 45 miles (there is a dealer here in town too) to use them and they will even help me by phone. I feel for the guys that do not have a good dealership near them. If you are on your way through MN on I90 and need anything see them. Guys drive from IA to buy their Gold Wings from them, fair priced not expensive and THEY KNOW THEIR STUFF.

The dealer I use, parts only is pretty good and does know what a Valk is. That is crazy they didnt know. The service guys help me without a problem , I work on bikes for buds at the house and get all kinds of Jap stuff. They work on most of them too. I even get a small discount too. Some have had problem with them but for me I am good.  Lots of help here for the Valk, I am glad it is still on the web. Good bunch here with lots of info.
