Hey guys, I traded my '00 Tourer in for an '04 Goldwing (and miss it every day...!), now I want to SuperValk my '99 interstate.  I read a lot of the info found here and in old archives, the one thing I need help with is fender rails.  Are the SuperValks using standard/Tourer fender rails?  I saved my rear backrest delete grab bar from the Tourer, but I believe I'll have to change out the fender rails, correct?  And are there any around to be had? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Also, any tips on a tailight would be great too!

Bikes come and go, but my Interstate is going to the grave with me!

Easiest taillight is the stock STD/Tourer unit.     Ya need to buy the STD/Tourer taillight loom if ya want it to look factory.      Otherwise just run new wire and use loom tape on them.    They are under the fender so no one is going to be a lookin at them.

But, I come from a auto repair life style, needed to make $$$ as a LEO ya know, and I just fix overhaul and repair daily.   Don't need all the factory crap unless I'm into the computer under the dash.

Fender rails, never looked close enough to one to advice ya here.

Thanks RJ, yeah the oem tail light would be ideal if I could find one! I'll keep looking, that's my first choice.

Jim, it took me over a year to finally break down and pay the money for a Honda tail light assembly!!  Now, I’m waiting for the guts to buy the solo seat!!  It’s not the same seat as the standard, or tourer.  The interstate seat is a hair smaller due to the larger fuel tank.

I love the look of a super-valk!!  And since my wife doesn’t like riding, why have that rear trunk and seat!!

I’m looking for just the seat with maybe a back rest.  Once I get the guts to crack open the wallet and buy one (they’re over $500 if you can find one) I’ll probably be pulling the trunk.

The worse part for me would be loosing my rear speakers, love my music while I ride!!

Good luck!!

Jim the super valk uses the I/S rails. You cut the trunk rails in a matter so you just loose the bolts pick up on the back and slide the whole thing back to clear the front bolts and lift it off. This is after you un plug the lights and speaker wires under the right side cover. Also you need to figure out where to mount your radio antena I'm using a short rubber antena mounted low between the rear fender and saddlebag. Do a search as I know there is a lot of imforation on how the cuts are made and the shape of the cuts. I think there is a member who will do the work on your mounting brackets for you but I'm not sure of his handle.

If you want to put a rear grab bar on you will have to buy Standard/Tourer rails. You can find some on Ebay.

You'll Like it Jim.....

With out the trunk , there seems to be less buffeting and I think you hear the front speakers better, so the music should be same or better. I did upgrade the stock speakers to the Polk Audio 5 0 somethings... upgrade is on here somewhere.

I did use a standard drivers seat for my solo seat.... got it on Ebay fo $40 and it just fits a little snug, but is does work. So save yourself a few hundred, unless you really need/want to go aftermarket.

I also just used a fender bib on the rear fender to cover the marks left by the I/S seat.

I got a used Standard/Tourer Tailight, but ended up getting a new lens to make er purty!

Also used the Utopia backrest from my I/S seat by getting a standard base bracket from Utopia for $50.

Hope this helps.

FYI... You can get the taillight assembly from Directline for $125..... used might not save you much...depends on what you find.

If you want to be able to put the trunk on and off, you have to leave the I/S rails on...if you want to make it permanent and use your tourer backrest you need to change the rails to standard or tourer, then you can use the backrest or a solo bar...I put my antenna on the splash pan under the right saddle bag, using the connection from the trunk bar and making a plate that fits into the connecter and then bolting it to the splash pan...works great....find a tail light from a tourer or standard, they are around.....use the electrial connector from your trunk, 3 prong and connect to the tail light, plugs right in under the left side panel, no need to change any of the signal lights....here's a pic of the antenna mounted..

RE: REAR LIGHT ASSEMBLY AND OTHER STUFF OFF MY 2000 STANDARD

Jim et all...
I am not sure if my post is relevant to your needs... but here I go!

Whatever I end up doing to my girl ... while indulging her in prohibitive desires, most of the OEM rear lighting system is off... for good.  Shocked

I also removed the OEM seats and the entire sissy bar assembly. Some day I might install one of those beautiful solo bars...  Undecided
But as you'd see, I am going for the clean-contour of the fender-look.
It seems to me that the solo bar might detract from the contoured look that I want.

At any rate, I am open to "trade" most these things for other Valkyrie stuff such as fork-end-Torpedo Bullets, Ventilation PODS... etc ?  Cheesy ??? Undecided cooldude
I still have everything you'll see except for the small windshield and the soft bags...
Also, I took apart the signal-license plate assembly
to remove just the running lights... which are now attached to the license plate.

If you Jim or anyone would like to "talk" further about this, feel free to email me directly.  uglystupid2

The photos you would see on the link are somewhat chronological from 18 March 2011 until Yesterday.  Smiley
NOT SHOWN are the truck stack beauty rings nor the seat rail that I purchased from Big Bike Things.
