My brother-in-law, Steve, and one of his fellow soldiers were assigned to wax the floors of their barracks.     They’d heard that if they got the wax really hot, it would just glide across the floor, cutting their labor time in half.   Unfortunately, as they were heating the can of wax with a cigarette lighter, it caught on fire, setting off alarms and attracting fire trucks, ambulances and the police.   Steve had to report to his sergeant’s office immediately.   Assuming he was in big trouble, he took a deep breath as he faced his superior.   But before Steve could say a word, the sergeant simply muttered, “Been there, done that.  You’re free to go.”

We used to light her off until is was melted then dribble it right in front of the buffer.

Nothing like the smell of Johnsons Paste Wax on fire.

However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results.

My sons did the same with their senior boots at Texas A&M.  Used a lighter as part of the shining ritual.

In Marine Corps boot camp that was a daily ritual on boots and a weekly one on floors.

Some floors in the Boot barracks were so slick your ass was on the floor before you realized it.

I still polish a new set of boots this way, on fire melted wax and lighter fluid.

Get that initial shine and it is not hard there after to maintain.  If the leather in the boot is worth a damn.   Lots of cheap fake leather coming across the pond from India and Vietnam.

Never prior to joining uncle sugars canoe club could i see a reason for a mirror shine. I've been out 43 plus years and STILL shine my dress boots and shoes like i'm gonna stand inspection. Also can't seem to do ANYTHING but an inspection shave. Ah well at least i ain't out robbing handy marts and being a purse snatcher. Guess mom and dad and the Navy got something right. RIDE SAFE.
