Sorry I have been out of touch lately but I just lost a friend, Gary 'Tuddy' Truitt, in a motorcycle accident.  We held his funeral in Arnett, Oklahoma, this past Saturday.  I was with him when he passed and it is something I hope I never have to see again.

There were six of us riding home from a dinner ride.  Tuddy was leading the ride home when the accident occurred.  At the time of the accident, Tuddy was changing lanes because he was about to leave the group and turn into his neighborhood in Flower Mound.  A 21 year old girl in a VW bug pulled right in from of him.  I was in the rear of the pack and I could not believe my eyes when I saw this happening.  He never even had a chance.  I still don't understand how she could not see two different lanes with motorcycles.  The other members and I stayed by his side until the EMT's took him to the hospital.

Please keep the his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Very, very sorry to hear of this.  Prayers to you, the family and to the young lady who caused this.  She must also be in torment from causing the death of your friend.

My daughter is just learning to drive so I tell her, look multiple time, never be in a rush, leave distractions at home, and no cell phones.  This young girl was in tears after the accident.  I am sure she wished she waited and looked twice.  I think when she saw Tuddy's headlight at her side window, she paniced and jammed on the brakes.

Man dies in crash
This is an article I found on the accident:

By Chris Roark, croark@acnpapers.com
Published: Friday, June 3, 2011 12:13 PM CDT
A Flower Mound man was killed in a crash Tuesday night in the 5700 block of FM 2499 in Flower Mound.

According to a police report, Gary Wayne Truitt, 63, was riding his motorcycle southbound on FM 2499 around 9:38 p.m. as a Volkswagen Beetle, driven by 21-year-old Chelsie Sechovec of Denton, pulled out of a retail driveway on the west side of the road. The report stated that the motorcycle struck the Volkswagen, ejecting Truitt.

He was transported to Flower Mound Presbyterian Hospital and was pronounced dead at 10:06 p.m.

Capt. Richard Brooks of the Flower Mound Police Department said the accident is under investigation, but he said he doesn't anticipate any charges being filed in the crash.

I guess I never have been able to understand why when a car hits a car or a pedestrian, there is legal action and penalties, but if a car hits a motorcycle or causes it to crash, the "I didn't see him" defense is all you need. tickedoff
