Here I am returning from 1028 miles on Saturday.  Valk ran like a champ though I hit reserve on the leg from Fort Stockton to Ozona (110 miles).  Lots of hills to climb and a headwind kills gas mileage!

Congrats on making the 1000 miler. It amazes me that people can stay on a bike for that long of time. I love to ride, but a 450 mile day wipes me out. Are you going to attempt the Ironbutt Rally? Would like to see a winner riding a Valkyrie.

A buddy of mine won it in 2005. He was on a ST1300 Honda. He has a huge map of his ride that year hanging in his mancave. He rode over  13,000 miles in 10 or 11 days. Here is a story about his ride:  http://www.ironbuttrally.com/IBR/2005.cfm?DocID=23

Oh, I'm not nearly ready for that.  I felt good enough at the end of the 1000 that I think I could do the Bun Burner (1500 in 36 hrs), but beyond that I'm not sure.  Some of these IBA guys are really hard core.

Congrats and welcome to the club!  cooldude

I have done two Saddle Sores and a Bun Burner Gold (1500mi/24hrs) over the last few years. I have two more Saddle Sores planned this year... one around Lake Superior and one around Lake Huron.

For some reason, I still haven't really figured out why, I really enjoy these rides... I find them really cathartic.

Hang the certificate and wear the patch proudly, while looking at their website it looks like this stuff is done by a large percentage of riders; it isn't. You should be proud!

Me too...I'm in the club also. Saddlesore on my Goldwing 4 years ago. Ran it with a a buddy of mine. Both on Goldwings. Doing it on the Wings was nice, we could talk to each other on the CB, made the miles go by and made stops much easier. At the time I thought I'd do a few more, but I haven't yet. Lotta fun at the time though.

Thanks for the welcome.  It seems pretty common that those who do these rides can't really explain why they do it, much less why they enjoy it so much.  I am now one of those.  My wife just rolled her eyes at me and chuckled as I walked out the door.  uglystupid2

Welcome to the club.  Real sense of accomplishment when I completed mine, along with my son.  It was a good day and a great ride.  I'm sure you feel the same.  Congrats!!

Congrats, now you will have to do te 1500 miler  cooldude

My personal best was about 900 miles, when Smokin'Joe and I were coming home last year from Inzane. I have done a few 700-800 mile days riding to Sturgis and to Key West. I think I could be an iron butt kind of guy. When riding to far destinations I often find myself setting goals to get to certain places by certain times.

BTW...Great looking Valk!!!

Thanks!  I just got it about a month ago.  Still have my 2005 VTX 1300S, but (surprise, surprise Shocked) the Valk is my new favorite!
