rebuilt petcock

With all the talk about hydrolock, I ordered the parts and rebuilt
the oem petcock.
I was prepared to find rubber all degraded, or stiff, or changed
colour, but it was absolutely pristine.
Holding the 13 yr old set next to the brand new; no difference.
After rebuild, I've given it a couple of weeks to make sure
it didn't leave me on the side of the road. So far so good.
The shoptalk article warns about 'sproing' when taking it apart.
That's what happened. Watch out for that if you're going to do it.

Take a look at the "tit" in the big diaphragm.....pull a bit on the rubber around it and you will usually see that it has separated from the "tit" and leaks vacuum. This is the usual failure.

We just rebuilt john's '98 last weekend. It was probably original. Although it had never "failed", upon close examination, the diaphragm was turning into a sieve.
