I rode the new Victory Cross Country and relly like the bike. I know, v-twinky and all that but the 106 has power,my son has a Victory and it keeps up with me fine. Other than the usual keep the Valk stuff here is what I am wondering, NADA goes from 5200-6900, I know there are guys in the classifieds looking for the moon on the Valks but my real question to all is, mine is an 03 Standard, Chrome tranny covers, Detatchable bags, 38000 miles, Memphis shade batwing and alot of other bling. The dealer offered me 5500 (amounts to about 6000 really because of taxes). I understand he has to make money but selling it myself, dealing with the idiots etc and the fact that about 6500 is about what the bike would bring, is that a good trade price. I will also get 1000 in free accessories if I do it in the next two weeks.

seems fair to me.
try for another 3-500 on the trade, be serious and let him know you will make the trade while you are there. Being serious gets their attention. Take your valk title with you and let him see it in your shirt pocket. If no more on the trade, get more accessories thrown in. The thou you are getting is likely a factory promo. Get a few goodies from the dealer.
Fellow I know in the Patriot Guard just got a Victory (3 weeks ago). he's had 1800 wings and a lot of other bikes-he is wild about his new Cross Country.
Don't listen to those who tell you you're nuts-it's your money and your ride-you are the one being happy.

Keep in mind that the salesman sell bikes for a living. He will do the same thing if you bring it in three months from now. If he says you should have brought it in earlier, let him know you are not desparate, and he can keep his bike, yours is paid for. Too many times we feel like this is the last bike on earth and we have to have it.

I'm kinda looking at that Cross Country too. Great lookin' bike & I don't care what anybody says about a V - twin, if it will go down the road @ 70mph with power to pass, that's all I need. I think I'm gonna hold off at least until after Inzane for obvious reasons. Roll Eyes

I did the "ride a Victory tour" and that gives me $1000 mfg coupon. My son used my first coupon so today I drove to another dealer and signed up for another one. My dealer is a friend and fellow rider, he told me the price was good and there is no pressure. The only pressure is the coupon expires on 6-26. I have bought lawn mowers, snowblowers and chainsaws from him. Nice thing about the Vic is there are no 500 mile check ups etc to keep the warranty, the dealer knows how cheap I am and that I like to do my own work.

I'd get the Victory Crioss Country in a minute as I find it an awesome motorcycle. The NADA values are low because they no longer get their info from dealers. Basically the banks now make them up and the 'values' are about what the banks will lend on them minus a percentage/factor. Most bikes these days are worth more than what the NADA show.

All the best,

Mark

I get that Harley is the one to beat, so all the builders use V-twins. I would think that they should be trying to build better experience if they want to get ahead of the pack. The bike is gorgeous, but would it be worsened by using a smoother 4 cylinder engine? Probably more power and reliability as well.

This bike is a work of art, but the new BMW is a monster tourer. Why not go for both?

Traded, they did better on my bike. Thye do not want my hitch, it is work to take it off and sell it. If there is any interest PM me and I will take the time to take it off. Homemade reciever style for a standard, will sell fairly cheap.

Been eyeing them myself- if I might ask, are they moving off of MSRP yet, or still getting a full pop?

Oh BTW congrats

Nothing against Victory, but even the old Touring Cruiser looks better than the Cross Country!  That scooped, Arlen Ness-style tank just doesn't lend itself to a full-dress bike!

Now if they ever make a full-dress cross country Triumph Rocket III, I am going to be tempted to trade my Interstate!

I rode a friend's cross country a few weeks ago.  It is a very comfortable, powerful bike that handles really good.  Slow speed tight  maneauvers was very easy eith it.  Enjoy!

Not off retail much, I told the factory guy at the demo ride I was disappointed they did not come down in price more. He said the dealers are not given much room under their pricing program.

Its a 106cu in engine in all the bikes they had there.  IMHO Keep the Valk and also get the new bike, who has over 24k for a new bmw even if its freakin awesome.

Don't let him bother you, Old Guy Valk (Interstate) riders are like Gold Wingers who are trying to catch some  cool factor fallout from  Tourer and Standard riders.

The Cross Country is an excellent choice! I've been looking at them myself and IMHO it'd got the Steet Glide beat and  97 hp to boot!  Congrats cooldude

If I had an Interstate I would not have traded. I wanted an interstate with the radio and bags bad. Nice used ones were running around $9500 and I still had a used bike. I set up my standard with the Memphis Shades and a handlebar radio and amp. I was not happy with it, radio was subpar and the Memphis Shades does not hold a candle to and Intersate faring for riding. The Cross Country seemed to fit my needs very well. Good faring, cruise, nice sound and alot of power. I do not want a Harley and to be like everyone else, that is why I liked the Valkyrie. The Cross Country is not short of power either, outright flies. After the Valk I had to have something with alot of power.

I keep uppermost in my mind that it is YOUR money to spend as you see fit. Your still riding and thats the important thing. If i had the loot and was looking still a lot of choices out there. We all know there ain't agonna be no more NEW valks. Thats on Honda-no one else. Enjoy that new scoot. If you would keep us posted of likes/dislikes with that victory. Lot of the younger guys will be lookin at something different iffin honda don't get ooffin the frickin dime. Enjoy. RIDE SAFE.

I am exactly where you're at now. I've been looking for an IS for a while. I love my Valk but want a bagger. The I/S out there are way over priced IMO. I know I can't go by KBB on a Valk- but some want several $1000s over top dealer price. I'll pay a fair price but not gonna feed the greedy! There are very few out there in the style like the I/S.  Ultra Classic, Yamaha Venture, and the new Kawasaki Vasquero and the Victory. Other than the Harley, the Venture surprises me with the resale value. BTW people seem to over look the Venture V-4 with 100hp, smooth as silk with an unheard of warranty of 5 years!  They're just about as old as the wing and also have proven themselves. cooldude

ValhallaIamComing, Triumph does make a cross-country bagger, the Rocket III Touring.   It's got different frame geometry and rear tire than the regular III, plus other things like one headlight and the spedo mounted in the tank.  They also tuned the engine for more low end torque at the expense of absolute horsepower.

Pax to all and Mea Culpa to the original poster... when I snarked the Victory cross-country I didn't notice he had already traded!  I hope you do enjoy it!  Sorry to see you give up the Valk tho!  This is after all a Valk fan site.

If the recent rider age poll is any evidence, then the Interstate is not an "Old Guy Valk."  I am on the younger end of the spectrum!  I/S for three reasons: 1. I like fairings, 2. I like tunes while riding, and most importantly, 3. my wife likes the larger passenger seat w/ full back and armrests!  She wouldn't ride even 50 miles with me on my old Road Star Silverado.

I have seen the Rocket III tour... nice bike!  But see #3 above... that is the dealbreaker!

Interstates can be had reasonably if you're patient, and willing to travel.

I bought one with 32K last year for $6K even.  And the guy picked me up at the air port too!

I'm sure you'll love your Cross Country; my friends who have them love them, and if I get the itch to have a different bike, that'll be it.  What really tempts me is that for '11, they added a trunk option.  It's pricey, like $1,700 pricey, but for me, it's really the icing on the cake of a great looking bike.  Ride safe and enjoy!

I love the CC but am gonna wait a while and and see how tough the engine/tranny is. They haven't been out but 2 years and have a recall on the new ones. The price is better than a Harley, but they haven't been out long enough to do a resale comparision vs the Streetglide. If their resale is going to be like the Vics that has been out for years, that's not good. But they sure look sweet and have heard a lot of good stuff about them.   cooldude

I did a search for the recall on 2011 Cross Countrys and it involves the handlebar clamps, not the engine or tranny. The recall applies to bikes built from Jan.2011 til Apr.2011.

I don't worry much about resale value, I tend to keep things until they are worthless anyway.  laugh
