I had two incidents today that got my attention.
The first was on my way to work:
I noticed a deer running a realized that it waas going to run across the road. It was far enough away that I only cracked the throttle to slow down.
Then I realized that the car comming towards me hadn't seen the deer and was going to hit it. With that revalation I got on the brakes hard. The thought was that I had no idea where the deer would go once the car hit it.
Things did seem to go into slow motion, as I watched the Cadillac hit the deer, the deer go up into the air and then come sliding down the roadway towards me.
Because I had foresaw the event I had scrubbed off more than enough speed to avoid the sliding deer.
Things never got close enough to make me soil my shorts but it definately had my attention.
The second thing happened when I rode out for lunch.
I was in a mall parking lot stopped behind a line of traffic when out of the corner of my eye I noticed that the car beside me had begun backing out.
I laid into the horn and the car stopped, then I watched her look at the car in line behind me and then begin to back up again.
I laid into the horn again and watched her stop while looking at the car behind me with a really confused look on her face.
She never looked directly behind her (where I was).
By this time the traffic in front of me had moved and I was able to move out of the path of the "Blind" driver.
Again, not an event that made me soil anything but definately one that had my attention.
Some days it does seem that "they" are out to get us.
