We're heading out next week for a ride through New England and up through Nova Scotia. Looking for any suggestions on routes, sightseeing, points of interest, good eats and areas to avoid. Any advice on border crossings? We live outside Detroit and have never had a problem crossing the border on the bike, but, have heard a few not so good stories! Anything extra we should take with us? Gerbings?? Thanks!

This may sound funny, but do not try to race any Moose you may see on the road. There are signs warning motorist of that. They are big, fast and win! Have a great trip and try a "Lobster Roll"

Spend time on Cape Breton Island and enjoy the trails. Some of the nicest scenery anywhere.
Leave your NRA stickers and guns at home unless you like being strip searched, detained, or jailed.

I agree with above posting....get to Cape Breton Island. THE BEST scenery in Nova Scotia along with the best roads. We did encounter two moose in this area as well, so keep your eyes peeled. Another small warning: Many backroads are unpaved, and some of that gravel and soil gets tracked onto the main roads, so on rainy days...our fairing got a bit pock-marked from the cages kicking up the mess. But, the peoples are terrific and the many small fishing villages are worth searching out and exploring. Peggys Cove, Portuguese Cove and Beddeck. (The latter was one of the prettiest, most charming towns I've ever encountered) Good Luck...ride safe. Mike in N.Y.

Rte 6 thru Pennsylvania, Rte 30 thru the Catskills. It's bike week in Laconia, NH and all the roads around there are beautiful. Kancamagus Hwy (NH rte 112) thru the White Mountains is a great ride. Yes, take your Gerbings. Robbins motel between Ellsworth and Bar Harbor, Maine...tiny but clean rooms, Queen, off-season (now) rates are $32 per night. The best rides are with the one you love. Be safe.

Two more questions for y'all! Is it true that most places close down around 6:00 in the evening in Nova Scotia? Will we need Canadian money or will everyone take American? In Ontario, we've never been turned away with American money! Thanks for all the tips! Anyone got any more?

What dates will you be there? We're in VT now and will be in NS in 2-3 days. Spending a week or so there before heading back to AZ. Sandy

Little late in responding, Sandy. We're heading out tomorrow from the Detroit area of Michigan. No hurry to get there! How's the weather there?

Take Canadian money, it makes life easier. From Montreal north along the St Lawrence Seaway. If you speak french, that will help. Around the coast of Nova Scotia, then the ferry to St Johns from Digby.
Great ride, have fun

Definitely go to Bar Harbr, Maine. While there, go up Cadillac Mt. The Cat from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia is no longer operating. My wife and I are doing the New England trip and into P.E.I. and then West across Canada and down to Bellaire, Mi. to InZane XI. Have a safe trip.

I hope you have a chance to read this. If you happen to be in Cape Breton and you are looking for a B&B. Go to Cheticamp and stay at Germain's. It is located just west of Cheticamp and she puts on a great breakfast. There is a restaurant called the Acadian at the west end of the town on the water and they make authentic Acadian dinners. These are to die for. Take Canadian cash when out in Nova Scotia and Cape Breton or they will be thinking that you are trying to give them funny money. Cape Bretoner's are some of the most hospitable people you will ever meet. The other route you must do is the Cabot Trail (counter clockwise). You will love this or crap your pants.
