I was so thrilled to discover an unbiased news-source like this, that I promptly filled in the donation form at the bottom of the article, giving them my credit card info and all!!

Having said that...menstruating monkeys aside... this is highly valuable research. I suppose it would be cheaper to slice open the brain of a living child, to see the impact its mom's drug use had on it during pregnancy, but not ethical. If this research brings cheaper and safer intervention and addiction treatment methods it will actually save the government money in the long run.

Saying "but I am not a druggie, so why should MY taxes bla bla" is the same old argument I had about school taxes. After my kids graduated, that is.

when i was unemployed and desperately seeking ANY kind of job, i applied for a position at UW Madison in the primate research department.  i was SOOOOOO close to getting the job, but didn't 'cause of some family questions......  anyway, i still think that it would have been a great job,  torturing them little monkies!!  stealing their dope stash and stuff!!   

all joking aside, as much as people gripe about it, i would much reather them research on monkies then having to find out the effects on humans.

they do not have to do that particular research on monkeys....society is doing plenty of that research on its own. Do you wonder about the effects of drugs?  LOOK AROUND YOU !  Why dont we spend a few million to see what happens when a monkey grabs ahold of a glowing ,red hot, steel poker?
