Just got the tourer up and running and purchasing and fixing a hydrolock problem.  Now the turn signals are acting up.

The turn signals work fine as long as the brakes are not applied.  If the brakes are applied, the turn signal dims and no longer blinks.  Release the brake and it starts blinking again.

Also if the turn signal is not on, but the brakes are applied, the turn signals acting as running lights also dim.

Probably some corrosion somewhere but I was just wondering if anyone has any specific places to look.  I will look in the headlight shell and rear fender area.  Also, there were Moto lights installed and the installer tapped into the wiring harness near the battery.  I rewired this with a fuse panel, relay and switch, and removed the tap, so maybe it is bad there...

Any help will be appreciated.

I had a similar problem on my Interstate last year shortly after buying it. The previous owner had installed a modulator, LEDs, and trailer wiring. Alph played around with the wiring in the trunk and got things working correctly. I'm guessing that whoever did the wiring on your cycle did something incorrectly, but I couldn't tell you what it might be. I would start with the area in which they tied into the stock wiring.

I'd start under the right side cover.  Roll the rubber boot back and check the connections under there.

I created a similar condition when wiring my trunk lights. It's fixed now, but I'm not completely sure exactly how I had it wired incorrectly. Best I can tell, I was somehow grounding the turn signals light through the brake power line. Or may have been the other way around.
Any way, I grounded to the frame and used what I thought was the ground line to power the brake lights. All works fine now.

Sounds like a ground problem.

probably a missing or loose ground.  Check the connectors under the right side cover that go to the rear, and the one underneath the rear fender too.  There is a male/female connector hidden under there.

Found the problem.  Before I bought this bike, my friend who owned it had it in the shop and was going to have them repair the hydrolock problems but then was thinking of parting it out instead, so I bought it.

Well the shop did pull the starter and for some reason must have disconnected some of the wiring and then when my buddy decided to pull it back out of the shop, they did not put it all back together, at least correctly Wink

The green-wtih-orange bullet was connected to the green wires on the other side of the connector and the green bullet was connected to the green-with-orange wires on the other side in the boot under the right side cover.

I swapped the connectors to the correct connection and all is well.  Now the tail light looks normal, brightens when brakes are applied and the turn signals work correctly with the brakes applied as well Smiley

So an easy fix.

I was about ready to check the connectors under the rear fender when I said "let me just see" and checked the connectors in the boot once more before doing more.  Glad I did.

Thans for the suggestions of where to look.
