Been a little tough for me for a while. I lost my bird dog a while back. 5 weeks or so ago now. She had been sick. She ate gorilla glue almost a year ago now. $3250 in surgery (they told me $1000 initially) and she was OK... then developed a large mast cell tumor after that. another $575 and the dog is gone.

Then last Friday my oldest brother died. He was 58. He was sick, bedridden crippled and unhappy. So it was not a tragedy, but it was still unexpected, and a blow. We had the memorial for him on Tuesday. It was mostly a fun time, and a celebration of his life. I did part of the eulogy. His step son did the other half.

Don't know why I am sharing this with ya'll now... but that's been keeping me away from posting, although I have been lurking most every day.

Still working like a dog, and trying to buy my firm. That's always slow... and takes more money and time and effort than could really be reasonable.

Anyone want to fly out on a fishing trip? Meet me somewhere for a week or so?  Put me up when I get on the Valk and point it west... and don't tell ANYONE I am gone until I cross the Mississippi river?

Jabba, heading out on a 2600 mile trip starting July 8th.  Leaving Toledo Ohio and circling the great lakes. You are welcome to come along. Sounds like you need the time.

I'd love to.  I have a week scheduled off later in the month when I am riding around lake michigan, and catching the 1st couple days of Inzane.  Then onto South Bend for my wife's 25th reunion.

What I need is 2 months off... and $50K to "get by" on.

Thanks for the invite though.

Sorry about your brother and dog Jabba.  Life throws us curves, seemingly more as we move along the continuum.   All we can do is soldier on.  Looking forward and not back helps some.

So, so sorry to hear about your troubles, Jabba.  Sad
Hope you will be seeing better light soon.  We just got back from a 10 day ride up and down the California coast, starting in LA up past San Francisco about 100 north.  Back  through Napa/Sonoma wine country and back down again.  It was so stress-free and delightful.....that's what you need to do to get some peace.  Hope you can do something like it soon.

Jabba,

Sorry to hear of yer woes...  I know what a bad year is like...  Been there, still going through it (Divorce after 30+ years, my mother passing...).  Hell, if this ol fart can survive, a young buck like you should be good to go.

Seriously, take some time for yerself, and keep it in perspective.

If ya need a place to lay yer head, and yer in Wisconsin, look me up.  Good fishing near by, and I've got a boat!

Hang in there, Jabba.  Things will get better.

Life is a four-letter word sometimes, but even when things really suck, lots of folks are having a harder time.  Not a lot of comfort there, I know.  It's just the perspective I've adopted over time.

I enjoy your posts and look forward to meeting you in Bellaire.

Been a while since we've seen you.  You are a good man and we always enjoyed your company.  So sorry about your brother and may he rest in peace.

I lost my dog of 16 years about 18 months ago and still miss her.  It's like losing a kid.

I'm so sorry to hear you got hit by the double whammy.  Rough seas, no doubt.

I'm a good day's ride west of you.  I've not much to offer, but I'll show you both the good roads in east Kansas and provide a place to sleep.

If you can't get away for a ride, make a chance to spend some time with Ben.

I'll be praying for your comfort and recovery from these tough times.

She's OK.  She probably took it a little harder than me, but he and I have talked about his inevitable death for a LONG time.  I knew he was ready to go.  He was miserable being bed ridden.  He cowboy'd up for a while trying to get back on his "foot" but his upper body was hurting too.  And his back.  And when he reinjured his broken leg... he just didn't have any gas left in the tank, and I believe allowed himself to rest.

Mrs. Jabba is fine.

What does the firm do?

We're a consulting engineering firm that does HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing design, and I do commissioning work as well.

I appreciate the offers for a bed to sleep in.  I guess maybe that's what I was looking for.  Just to know there are people, almost strangers willing to go out for you.  My thoughts of riding west are pretty tongue in cheek.  I have a 4 year old.  I ain't bailing on him.  The Ol'Lady would be mad... and like I said, I am so invested in my firm, I am trying to buy it so the Old Man can retire.

I am not even sure it's the deaths that have me down, it's more the world around me.  People not being nice to each other.  Maybe I am seeing that BECAUSE of life's recent events.

Lori and I got out for about 25 miles last night after dinner, before Ben had to go to bed.  while brief, it was very nice.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone in Bellaire... I am a recognizable fellow.  I look JUST like my avatar.  Please feel free to introduce yourself.

Hang in There. Seems we all hit some very hard times in this life and although sometimes it seems almost impossible to do, we do make it through them. It's been said the bad times make us appreciate the good times more, but I think most of us believe that we can appreciate the good times just fine without the bad. I hope you can find some solace in knowing that others do care. I agree with what you said about there are a lot of unkind people but always know there is also still a lot of great people as well. Be strong, sounds like you got a great wife and son to share your life with and it doesn't get any better that that! Best Wishes, Hef.

Jabba.
If ya get real bored and need to put some miles on yer butt, head south just a little ways and we'll take to the backroads of KY.  I don't get to ride nearly as much as I want and this would be a good excuse.  I'm normally off Sundays and Mondays.  Only about 3 hours south of ya.  Just a thought.
