FYI.. Placed an order for Interstate slide springs , got a call back a couple days later and said they were discontinued.. What is the difference between standard and Interstate springs?

Also found the absolute best carb dip for cleaning.. You mix it with 2 parts tap water.. Amazing stuff and no fumes..
Blast in to your your local yamaha dealer and ask for Yamaha Part #  ACC-CARBC-LE-NR..
If they don't stock they can get it in a couple of days..
Leaves no tarnish and is brass freindly..

The IS used a slightly weaker spring, which allowed the carb slides to open quicker.  This improved throttle response a bit to compensate for the extra weight.

This might answer another question.  It's typical for manufacturers to discontinue less common parts after 10 years.  I read somewhere there was some legal requirement to carry parts for that long.  As the IS was dropped after 2001 your experience isn't surprising.

I've heard that Honda, however, has had a reputation for making parts available longer than other MC companies.  The spring discontinuation makes you wonder if Honda no longer supports older bikes as well.  If that's the case, things could get very bad for Valk owners in about 2 years, since 2003 was the bike's final year.

My other bike is a 1975 Honda Goldwing, the GL1000. I don't really have any trouble getting parts from Honda. I normally go to someone else, though, I don't want to pay the Honda prices unless I must.

I'm sure a few large places have some of those stocked, I just put mine in last week. I have cobra springs I will sell.

petevenne....i don't know who your dealer is, but...i called mine here in roanoke today and had him check on the availability of those carb springs.....guess what?....those carb springs are in all the wharehouses....in other words there are plenty of them.  your dealer must not know how to check, or did not check it right for you.  THEY HAVE NOT BEEN DISCONTINUED!!!

Thanks farther, I just ordered a set.

If Honda did discontinue them it's possibly because it's (sort of) a redundant part. An IS will still function fine with a standard Valk slide spring and their answer may be to just use those. It's also possible that they're having supply side problems due to the tsunami/quake.

Nuttin a stealer says or does surprises me anymore at all. I'm the one that posted about my stealer wanting to drain the coolant and pull the radiator to change the timing belts-his gueestimate was 10 to 12 hours at $65.00 per hour and about $100.00 bucks fer the belts. Did it my dam self. uglystupid2 I will admit some dealers do a fine job. Problem is they is gettin farther and fewer between. 2funny RIDE SAFE.
