A few weeks ago my pastor bought a 1996 Gold Wing Interstate for something better 2 up than his VTX 1800. It's a beautiful 1 (local) owner bike as close to stock as you can get for a 1996 with just under 39k miles on it. As far as I can tell the only non oem items are a way too large windshield and a throttle lock. He already wants to sell the Wing. Today I rode it about 50 miles from one of our churches to the other. I've never ridden a full dress Wing before even though I've looked at them in the showroom from time to time.

It was nearly 90 today with very little air movement so that made the windshield even worse. I simply didn't get any air movement at all. Nothing on my legs, body, head, arms or hands. I wear a mesh jacket, mesh gloves and a full face helmet. What a sweat box. I was also very surprised at the differences between my Valk engine and the one on the Wing. The Valkyrie engine modifications have to be just what the 1500 engine has wanted it entire life. The Valk is so much more responsive and powerful. I honestly don't think I ever heard sound coming from the Wings mufflers either. The O/D fifth gear seemed nice and well suited to the bike though. But is it possible for a motorcycle to make feel 20 years older just by riding it! I know I'm biased as I'm on my second Valkyrie Interstate but the Wing is only 3 years older than my Valk but looks very dated IMHO.

I may have to find either a Valkyrie Interstate or a nice Tourer for my pastor after he sells this Wing.

All the best,

Mark

Check out the Valk I just posted on this board. I think he may find it heavenly!  angel
