How does the Valk run against a VTX 1800? roll on ? The specs show more power and quicker. Me and my boss took a ride friday morning. I was figuring I was faster than his VTX 1300, but he is a lot lighter, bike and person. I stayed well below redline and he said he had no prayer of staying near me, but he sure did like the sound of 6 into 6. We stopped at the Honda dealer in Marysville,Oh. I saw my first 2 Ruin's,(one at $27K) I like them as much as I thought I would. Pretty bad when a dealer has nothing you want to replace your 12 year old bike with. Maybe the ST1300 if my body would fit it now. I'd rather have my '82 CBX back than it , (upgraded with those $). Their were 1500cc blocks(cylinders) made for the 1047 CBX.(limited run by CBX Racing, Cal.)

Are you going to race against one? I had an 1800R and Valk I/S at the same time for a few years, and they have somewhat comparable figures... but there are some seat of pants differences. I think the VTX1800 is more torquey in a snappy, jerky kind of way whereas the Valk has a different low grunt kind of torque in that you can be in 5th and slow down to 30 or so and just roll on the throttle to come back up to speed (the VTX would lug and jerk and you would then have to down shift). If you are looking for a replacement for your 12 year old Valk, there are not many great comparable options out there. It all depends on what you are looking for..... but they don't make the VTX anymore either... so maybe what you are looking for is an excuse to keep that 12 year old bike.

I traded my 1800C for my valk. With the 1800 final drive it was way to jerky in first and sometimes second. I swapped a 1300 final drive and smoothed it out and got some additional speed out of it. But that was another bike and it's mods. I did trade up in my opinion.

It's really funny that you ask that question. I just rode about 85 miles on my valk and vtx 1800. I started on the valk and switched to the 1800. Both are fast but I love my valk much more. I have the 6 degree tripple tree that makes the valk so light and it handles like a dream.
For speed, that's a hard one. I have the 1300 final drive on mine which makes highway driving much nicer because it drops the rpm's. Off the line, it's slower now then it used to be. I think the valk might be a bit faster.
Honestly, I can't believe how much I love my valk!
The only bike that might sway me is the new K1600 BMW. I haven't tried one yet, I'm afraid to. It is reviewed in Motorcycle Consumer News this month.

The BMW is a sweet looking bike but at $30k in Canada, I will stick with my Valk.

The only non-HD cruiser that really turns me on is the Triumph Rocket III.

that's what I wanted to know. A first gear roll on , a 30 mph 5th gear roll on is to our advantage.
thanks

A 1st gear roll on no problem. A 5th roll on from 30 the VTX will win, The VTX pulls like a tractor from down low.

He'll have a problem but not a serious problem. The VTX has pistons the size of coffee cans and lives for low rpm's and that's exactly where he'll be at 30mph in 5th gear. Make it a 2nd gear start at 30 and he'll jump you until he has to shift or bounces off the rev limiter and it's all over.
Grudge race?

Standing start he will win. I've seen 1/4 times on here and it's a little faster in the quarter.

My 2 cents KEEP the Valk
