I sadly announced in March that I was giving up riding and getting rid of my Valk due to a second failed shoulder surgery on the advice of my surgeon. My main malfunction is reaching, as I only have about 30 degrees from vertical active range of motion in my right (dominant) arm, but I've been working on my strength. I put the bike up for sale in the local paper and got a few offers (mostly low-ballers, thinking they could get the bike for next to nothing) and a bunch of requests for pics. Well, a few days ago I wheeled the bike out and took some shots for my latest ad, to which the only response was from a guy wanting to trade a dressed 750 Aero and $1000. Sitting around that night I suddenly realized that it was really not a problem either wheeling the bike out of the garage or reaching the right grip. Today, I took a chance and got the Valk out for about 100km and, while I'm in some pain, I'm really in not much more pain than I would have been in anyway. I have another surgery coming up at the end of the year to try to improve my range of motion and as of now- I'm an ex-ex biker. Life is good once again  Smiley

Glad you are not in Seller's remorse.  Keep up the therapy at home, that will probably do the best for you anyway!

Even with some pain, she'll always put a smile on your face.

i had a sail mast fall on my shoulder and smash the heck out of my right clavicle.  didn't break it (amazingly) but the doctor wanted to remove three inches of bone.  he said that it will take a very long time to heal since it doesn't get much blood flow through that part of the bone.  it'll be five years this coming july 4th, i had to relearn how to throw a softball to my girls, i can't hold my right arm above my head for very long with out pain, it's really affected a lot of things that you normally wouldn't think would bother you.  but, it gets better a little bit each year.

good decision on not selling that bike!!!

Congrats on your revival.

Only you can know how much pain is too much and what's it's really telling you.  Some pain is not all bad.  Pain lets you know you're alive.  Those who sleep the sleep of death feel no pain.  You and I are still living.

I too was told to quit riding . I have had four shoulder surgeries and extensive physical therapy. I also have a total of seven implants in my shoulders. I started riding to see if I could. My shoulders feel better because I am not exercising. but usung my shoulders to do something I enjoy. I discussed it with my wife and she is ok with it and rides with me. I have been riding for close to 50 years and will ride until I decide to stop. If 8 accidents haven't stopped my, then why should surgery.

So glad to hear you are better and stronger.
So glad to hear that only idiots answered your ad and that you had the sense to not fall for their BS.

I will be an ex-biker one day, but I'll be six feet under.
Good luck and better health,...from one COBB to another.

Every time it hurts when you ride, Just think how much it would hurt NOT to ride!!!!!

Bad knees, shoulders, and several mashed vertebrae here... mostly dirt bike and Snowmobile related....... Oh and have oncoming Arthritis, possibly Rheumatoid, docs arent sure yet...

I will keep riding until I can't hold it up..... then a convertible.

At an early age I learned you can go far beyond your limits.
Unfortunatly that can work against you too.
Stay in the wind as long as its safe and comfortable.
