went for a ride and although the bike was running, it just seemed sluggish at times. Was on 301 at Citra and it basically ran out of fuel, coasted into a station. Vacuum line to petcock looked o.k. It fired back up and rode back and forth through Citra a couple of times, then took off for home. Got to Orange Heights and it almost died and was backfiring with throttle wide open. Put more gas in, it was just a couple of gallons down, but limped on home. The reason I am posting this is so that if anyone had something similar, you will know what you can do to get home. The cause of the problem was the vacuum diaphragm in the petcock was worn and leaking vacuum that was needed to hold the fuel side open and let the gas flow to the carbs. When I got home I checked and the vacuum line would not hold vacuum to the petcock, but if I sealed up the vent or drip hole in the bottom, it would flow fuel while it was sealed. If I had known to plug that vent or drip hole, it would have worked like a champ. Could have used a small stick, or some tape or glue to get us home without the aggravation. I had a spare petcock repair kit and replaced the part and it is fine now. You could even have reached down with your finger and covered the vent with your fingertip to keep it running, just would have been awkward. I may order up one of those Pingel manual petcocks for the Valks.

it will fail again. That OEM petcock is the worst part on the whole bike. I got rid of it for a Pingel a couple years ago and now...never a worry

I replaced my petcock with a pingel recently. It sets way up under there for sure. My question is what are guys using to coverup the space where the old petcock swich was. Looks kind of barren in that area now! Or do you just leave that space empty. Linedog

does the pingle sit on the right side of the bike rather than the stock left? I am trying to visualize where it sits and how it attaches.. and I understand the tube is a different length changing the reserve? If anyone has a step by step install instruction for wrench- dummies, please share.

Give Mike a call at Valkyrie Bling. He's one of the vendors on this site. http://www.valkyrieblingandmore.comHe use to make engine hangers specifically for those of use who have converted to the Pingel. (I think he still makes them.) It's really top quality with detailed etchings and cutouts! I have the set. Also, it really isn't an issue to reach under and turn the Pingel on or off.

The pipe the petcock mounts on is the tank centerline. To replace it follow the instructions in Kulow's Maintenance Guide to remove the tank then take a wrench and unscrew the petcock nut. Remove the petcock and make sure the screen is removed. Install the Pingle and tighten the nut. Reinstall the tank and connect the fuel line. Remove the vacuum line to cylinder 6 and put a cap on it. Marty I switch to reserve in flight. I practiced sitting on it in the garage, until it became effortless. I left my Hondaline engine hangers (reach under) Can't bear looking at that ugly area Honda forgot to cover up. I also dissmantled my petcock selector switch from the petcock and left that intack, to fill the ugly hole. Still looks stock, you can't tell its not there. The only drawback I see to this is the size of that TINY little selector switch on the Pingle and it's way up under the tank. I don't even give it a second thought anymore, it's become a natural move for me and surely a piece of mind. I look at Pingle like a CT..."It aint for everybody" It has worked for me

Dubsider, I will search for photo's (if I have any) You cannot see the Pingle valve once it is installed. It is mounted to the bottom of your gas tank, in the same location as the stock, only much smaller due to being mechanical type (no diaphram, no vaccuum) The stock petcock operated off of vaccuum from #6. This is no longer required as it is mechanical, that's why many replace it. Simple operation, on/off/reserve.

oops, you can see it. Can't see mine, as it's hidden behind the engine hangers.

perfect.. I am getting there.. so the Pingle hangs straight down and does not have an extension to the left side of the bike... like the stock regarding the vacuum, am I correct to think that the vacuum hose is taken out and is capped at the carburetor ???
