Why would anyone shave a cow like that?

Weather was SOME HOT but clear as a bell and JP had invited me over, so saddled up the Dark Shadow to test her out on a little ride yesterday.  Didn't want to get up on the superslab since I am still in the "break in phase" and suppose to keep it under 5k rpm (which is right at the 70 mph mark), so took old 90 over to Lake Charles.  GPS mount came in  day before yesterday and was a snap to put on the morning before I pulled out - Thanks again TP for turning me on to that site - a few dollars cheaper than ordering from RAM direct.

Good thing about taking old 90 is you get to groove on some of the old houses when you go through towns.

Going to have to play around with the GPS mount some - washes out really bad with sunlight.  So, pulled up to Hard6's and parked with his Valks so the ladies could get to know each other.....

Ms Mary was out shopping, so JP whipped up a "light lunch" for the boys.....

Got to spend some time with my dear old friend and jabber jawed for a couple of hours.  Then I had to skedadle home to walk the dogs (or so I thought).  Got a ways down the road and realized the time must have been wrong by an hour on the clock I looked at when I was at JP's, so I had an extra hour to ride, so ride I did.  Went down towards the coast.  There was a 5 mile gravel loop through a reserve that I wouldn't have taken the Valk through - but it was made for the Vstrom.

Got to see some pink flamingos and even a couple of little gators poking their little heads up out of the water.

Then down along the Creole Trail along the coastal marsh.

Took a ride through the Rockefeller Reserve (about 10 miles of gravel - again, I wouldn't have ridden the Valk - on purpose - through it).  Vstrom did fine.

Then a slow ride back home.  Got in 249 miles yesterday - the bike did well.  Not a Valk and you don't have the wind protection - a lot of wind at the helmet level - but still a fun little bike.  Plus, the main thing, got to spend some time with a friend.

Don't know how you and JP are able to keep your girlish figures eating "light" lunches like that!

Thanks for the ride report -- always fun! cooldude

I got the 1450LMT.  Wish I would have searched for features a bit more.  Good unit though.  Going to waterproof if it rains with a sandwich bag.  Great thing is the 5" screen for my old eyes.

Awesome ride report Strider!  I would love to have a VStrom or a KLR for those gravel roads.  Would be a great second bike to play on!

A friend of mine just got this waterproof bag and mount and it worked great for only $20.00 (link to bag below)

When did you get the V-strom. I hope you still got both bikes.

I went with the Nuvi 550 and it seems pretty good just sitting on the coffee table but it will get a heck of a field test this weekend since I plan to put a lot of time and miles on the bike with the GPS. Waether man is calling for rain on Sunday so maybe I will get to see how it works with the rain gloves.

A sandwich bag ... gotta love those high tech solutions.  cooldude
