Check your auto glass shops to see if they offer this service in your area. I've found a glass shop in Amherst, N.S that uses your old windshield as a template, and cuts a new one using " lexan " , which is far superior to plexi. They will even custom cut if you want.  The cost for this is far below the OEM's price. Quite a few bikers here said the lexan screens are great!   Worth checking out.
   Has anyone else tried this?

Sounds interesting. I wonder how scratch resistant lexan is.
By the way if your from Amherst and come to Halifax let me know and maybe we could hook up for a ride. I ride an Interstate.

I had a windshield made of that material by canus Plastics here in Ottawa, they claimed it was better material. Perhaps as far as scratch resistance , however under wind load at speed it distorted along the upper 3rd and just dumped it at me. Not a very effective material unless they make it very thick. Say 1/4 ".
Perhaps you'll have better luck.

Quicksilver, was wondering what thickness your lexan windscreen was, and at what speed did it dump on you.  That wouldn't be very good to have it bend like that. Was your screen curved or flat?   Smiley

It is made from flat stock that takes it's shape when installed on the wing fairing. It's about 1/8" thick. Tough stuff.
The top portion bends anywhere over 50 k or so. I found I can bend it by pushing on it and it will recover without damage. I swapped it out for an OEM windshield and found the OEM very stiff and not bendable when you push on it.
A much better windshield and about 1/4" thick.

Hi, just got back in. Sounds as though the glass dealer should be installing 1/4 in. lexan. This material is super tough , easily drilled and shapeable with the right tools of course. I can see why the dealer put 1/8 on your bike as it would be easy to bend and fasten to your mounting brackets. The heavier material  would likely have to be pre shaped somewhat. Was just talking to the dealer in Amherst and he confirmed what i just said. So i guess there wouldn't be many around that would be able to do this.
