I'm new to both the VRCC and the Valkyrie I/S. Love the bike, but will ride solo most of the time. Strongly considering converting the bike to a Super Valk. At times I'll have a passenger so the option to convert back to ride double at times would be good. Just not exactly sure where to begin. Any assistance would be welcomed and appreciated.
Thanks. BD

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is a SuperValk?

Go to "Old Tech Archive" type in supervalk, and you will find many, many posts and some pictures.

So it's basically an I/S with the trunk removed? Is that right?

Yowser, and then adding a rear tailight assembly and a removeable small type "sissy bar", and changing the seat. It looks pretty good, I just dont want to give up my I/S trunk space. Take a look at this thread on the general board; http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,28676.0.html

Don't know if this page is part of what Valkyriemc posted, but here is a step by step, in pictures, on how to convert the trunk mounting brackets to 'quick release'. Big BF (Bill Furgeson) is a member and a club sponsor. Lotsa cool ideas on his site. http://bigbf.com/bigbf_shop/mod_i-s_trunk/Black Dog

If you want 2 up capability, then leave the IS seat and add the standard passenger back rest.
While not a true "SuperValk" IE single seat, no back rest, it still looks good and has 2 up capability.
And by swapping to single seat and removing the backrest and installing a short low bar you can easily become a true "SuperValk".
Search the web and you will find a quick attach/detach trunk mod that is also nicely done to approach SuperValk look and feel.
The possibilities are endless.
By removing the trunk you remove several pounds of top heavy weight. I find that I like the way the bike feels, handles and rides without the trunk.
Have fun.

I have noticed a top heavy feeling to the bike and was hopeful that removing the trunk would eliminate some of that top heaviness and improve handling, particularly at slower speeds. Thanks for the insight. BD

You can't add the standard backrest without changing the fender rails that it mounts to, the IS fender rails won't accept the backrest brackets. That is what I did and use the Ultimate Lowboy seat. Four bolts removes the backrest and shown is the cruiser bar in its place. My standard has a IS tank but there I use a Corbin seat with the nose trimmed back to fit the bigger tank and I use the Corbin plug-in backrest making removing the backrest a tool-less process or three bolts gets the rear seat off quick for totally solo.

You will find it a lot less burdensome with the trunk removed, not forgetting to mention, the reduced weight which will lessen that "top heavy" feeling! ***

I went to tech board archives, the dates are set, typed in supervalk and over a hundred posts were there. Once I typed in petcock and there had to be over 500 posts of every sort of petcock issue. I mean my point in archives is a lot of this stuff has been thoughly hashed out in past years, although new fixes can come about too. I've been particpating on tech and reading it since 2002.

A true " Super Valk " has the trunk stay notched for easy on / off ( add the trunk or remove the trunk in about 5 minutes ) . Lots of folks has a Interstate with the trunk removed but that's not what a Super Valk is as much as they'd like to call it a Super Valk it is'nt.

I have mine super-valked with the brackets notched, when removed and riding two up, I have an 04 Intruder backrest by cobra that I drilled two holes ahead of the rear ones to mount onto the factory trunk studs, 5 minutes to remove pillion and backrest for solo, 15 minutes and the trunk is back on and wire harness connected for vacation

Notch or not. *** It goes without saying then ...You are one of them that has a Interstate with the trunk removed. It's your bike call it what you will but when the term " Super Valk " came into play it was because the trunk could be added and removed in about 5 minutes. All you have is a Interstate with the trunk removed... I know Super Valk sounds cooler than Interstate with the trunk removed but it is what it is .

Color me confused. Isn't mine a "Supervalk?" Let's see... ??? 1. I own a Super Dooper bike... the fastest on the Planet! 2. It happens to be a Black 2000 Valkyrie I/P = Interplanetary. 3. There is no trunk to take on or off. (I could buy one... err... then take it off.) 4. It has superb features... it rivals the space shuttle... but it's FASTER! 5. It is the ultimate Fat-Dude-Bike! Skinny people don't look good on it! 6. It roarrrrs... like a Super Dragon... 7. It waits for speedin' bullets So... is it a Supervalk or a UFO? https://picasaweb.google.com/103917731019176896112/SUPERVALK?authkey=Gv1sRgCOHZr9G19JjrdQ# "I lie to myself all the time, but I never believe me!"

Color me confused. Isn't mine a "Supervalk?" Let's see... ??? Yep, confused you are (on several counts) but you're not alone.
The term "Super Valk" was coined several years ago by a rider who came up with the mod to allow the trunk to be easily removed and re-mounted.
Some riders decided they wanted to remove the trunk and never put it on again. They erroneously began to use the term.
As someone else has said, you can call your bike whatever you want, but those who know what is a Super Valk will be able to recognize what is and what isn't.

I think calling a Valkyrie with a removable trunk a "Supervalk" is kind of outta line whether you need to cut the trunk off with a torch or just pop it off. "Convertivalk"? Sure. But Supervalk should be reserved for supercharged Valks.

Maybe cause "Blown Valk" describes those with superchargers. Doesn't matter what you think cause the term Super Valk was coined by the first guy to convert his I/S with a quick release/replace trunk. That term was accepted by those that ride Valks in this and other clubs and Johnny Come Latelies like you and me, I've had Sandman over 4 years now, don't have the right to complain about, much less try to change, the name.
