Whippoorwill. For those of you lucky enough not to know, it is a bird. First time I heard its name was in a Hank Williams Sr. song.
Its status is shown as 'threatened'; one step below endangered.
I've googled it and seen pictures of the ugliest bird since pterodactyl.
My aim is to contribute to its extinction by whatever means possible. Poison. Air rifle. Shotgun. Shotgun with radioactive pellets, if such exists.
Hank says "...hear the whipporwill cry...". OK. Or scream. Maybe gargle and gurgle as its throat is slowly twisted. All would be fine by me...

Being the type who can't go back to sleep once woken, I hoped that maybe, just maybe, his repetitive broken timing belt sound was just a mating call and that, once he got laid, the bastard would move on. But nooooo... no such luck. He yodels me to sleep, he greets me just before dawn.
"Whip yer' willie! Whip yer willie!" he yells, suggestively. Like I need a freaking BIRD to remind me????

This morning started for me, as most mornings, at 4:30, thanks to sweet sounds of mother nature. Yet I'm going on an all-day group ride.
Never thought I'd envy my Southern pals their snakes and alligators and such. I'd trade this bird from hell in a second.

**end of rant**

You're too kind...

Almost, but not quite - that clip has actual periods of silence. Mine is on full auto.

Hm. I wonder if I could place a speaker outside my window and play it back at him. Confuse the crap out of my 'pet' bird.

Wow!  I can see how the poor little fellow would feel threatened (and possibly disrespected, too).   2funny

Sorry.  I do hope you get to catch up on your rest soon.   Sad

My Grandfather was a avid bird hunter and was well known throughout the area as a excellent trainer of bird dogs. I spent many days in my youth runnin' behind a waterheaded bird dog with a 20 ga. over and under in my hand....I still see quail around here however it's been awhile since I've seen any grouse.
