Here's what I'm looking at, from a dealer with a stellar reputation:

A 1999 Standard, 29k miles, $8,189.00 including all fees, delivered via enclosed transport, fully detailed, ready to ride and directly to my door.  Dealer says "Valkyrie is PRISTINE and there will be no disappointments whatsoever."  Here is the list of upgrades:

Custom Full-Size Windshield With Chrome Frame
Custom Chrome Front Fender Railing/Bumper
Custom High Intensity Driving Lights With Chrome Housings And Integrated Visors
Custom "LeatherLyke" Saddlebags With Integrated Brackets
Custom Chrome Radiator Shroud/Grille/Radiator Cap
Custom Chrome (Matching) "Kuryakyn" Handlebar Grips/Driver Footpegs/Passenger Footpegs And Highway Footpegs
Custom Mustang Two-Position "Touring" Seat With Integrated/Adjustable Driver Backrest
Custom Chrome Sissy Bar With Integrated Passenger Backrest
Custom Chrome Luggage Carrier
Custom Honda CB Radio System
Custom Chrome Tri-Outlet Tipped/High Performance Dual Exhaust System
Excellent Front And Rear Tires
Pristine Paint

The price sounds high for a standard, but the upgrades, seems to me, make it essentially a Tourer, plus there's all that chrome, plus the dealer's rep.

Your thoughts?

THANKS!

If it's a price you're willing to pay then it's a good price.

For me it would be at least $2000 high, maybe more like $3000 high.

The long list of items with custom in front of them is much ado about nothing.  Only a few of them would be more than a couple hundred dollars purchased new.

Leatherlykes are nice add-ons for a Standard, but they don't make it equivalent to a Tourer if it's a Tourer that you'd prefer.

The "Custom Chrome sissy bar" is standard.

It does have lots of goodies, but I paid 4900 for my 1997 with a lot of the same stuff or better, though I don't have a CB and not as much chrome (not really a price + in my book). 8200 bucks sounds quite high to me.

See if you can push the dealer for a 6 month / 5,000 mile warranty.
Bike shouldn't need it but.............................................................

back out the fees and shipping, what do you have?
maybe 7200. A tad high but if it's as nice as it sounds, you'll be pleased.
I've seen prices like Willow suggests-but usually high miles and rough around the edges.
Everybody has gotten a better deal-wait and see the replies!

We have all paid more than the going rate for something we just had to have at one point in our life or another.  Look at the price of beer at the ball park for an example.  If it is worth it to you go for it!  I would not give that price for it....but then again I can't say what I would do if I just had to have it and was in the show room drooling over it.   Smiley

Well, I'll agree to a point with the "what's it worth to you" crowd. But by all means at least TRY to beat them up a bit. If they won't budge and you decide you still really want it then go crazy. But don't just hand over that extra 2g's without a fight  Wink

Wow.  You guys are great.  Hell, even if I'd not been craving a Valk since the late '90's I'd buy one just to get into this club of yours.  Wink

Seriously, I do appreciate your input.  I especially like the idea about asking for a warranty.  If the bike's as great as they say it should be a non-issue.  However, if there are potential issues...

THANKS!

I agree with the others, $7,200 is a little high for a standard in todays market,
I would say $1,200 to $1,500 high.

I paid $6,000 even (with 7,000 miles)  for mine from a private party 2 years ago. It had leatherlyke bags, and many extra's that are hard to get today.

You do not say where you are from, list a city or area in your profile so someone close can let you know if they are aware of one in your neighborhood.

WHat Britman said about a warranty, since you have not seen it in person.

Buy as is on the price and see if the warranty can come to you free.

If the splines are trashed which I doubt, it may cost 500 bucks to make it right.

But with that many miles I would say they are probably fine.

I'm in Richmond, VA.  The bike is in TEX-us, but I'm moving to Champaign, IL, in 3 weeks and they're going to deliver it there.

Thanks!

With just a little effort you can find a better price likely much closer to where you're going to be or where you are.

The delivery from the Republic to Illinois is probably a $600 item.

What color is it?  If it is a rare one, that would add worth.  If you like it, buy it,  I would take a trip to check it myself, but that's just me.  If I bought it I could ride it home, as a bonus.  Hoser

It's black and grey/silver.  I really like the colors.

I also would love to fly down there and ride it home, but we're in the middle of the move to IL from VA and once I hit the ground there I'll simply not have time to deal with the trip & ride home.

We have a trip to St. Louis planned for early August, however, and if the bike's waiting for me when we arrive in IL in mid-July my wife and I can take it on the 3 hour drive to SL for the weekend.

If you check out St. Louis craigslist, there is a nice looking well-equipped Interstate in Bethalto IL that can be had for that money.  But if you like the one in TX try to get them down a little!  I don't know how much luck you will have with asking for a warranty... I wouldn't think you could get a Honda warranty and a dealer warranty would mean you had to return it to TX if you needed to use it.

You won't regret getting a Valk though!  Wish they still made em!

Consider, all the upgrades listed are basic parts found on most Valkyries. The windshield is not OEM and therefore inferior, the OEM tourer windshields are molded to accomodate the Valkyrie structure. That item is about 1000$ if you want the correct one with the hardware to mount it, if you can find one. For the money you are paying you could buy a tourer equipped with OEM Hardbags and the correct windshield as well as the various footpegs etc. The term custom seems to simply mean aftermarket add ons. IMHO

I bought a '99 I/S with tons of accessories, Corbin seat, trailer hitch, custom paint job, pin striping, and all the OEM parts that had been removed for a little over $7K.  Now it did have a lot more mileage than the one you're looking at - but I think there are better deals out there than the one you're looking at.  Just my .02!   Wink

Will not cost you a nickel to ask the dealer what the absolute bottom dollar price is. If you are dealing with CASH in hand-well there is the asking price and what the dlr will ACTUALLY take. My i/s asking price was $7500.00-he took $5800.00-but i had cash and it was at a used car lot. You are in a much better position with the cash in hand. Look up average retail while yer drooling. 2funny What ever you decide-you can not have the regrets after you buy it. If at all possible-sit down with only the person that can make the deal-no lackeys. If you put something out there and he gotta go talk to the boss-cut to the chase-YOU talk to the boss. Hope this helps. Good luck and plz let us know what you come up with. RIDE SAFE.

it looks nice...I'd say go for it.  A lot of us paid close to full retail when new and were happy at that price.  I know I've got that much or close in accessories over the years and wouldn't sell mine for what they are asking.

Only you know if it's a good deal for you.  Sure, lots have paid less, but lots have paid much more.

Good luck and enjoy.
