Anything in particular I should be on the look out for while inspecting this bike? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well, it has the CB antenna, so should have it.  But, would not hurt to turn it on with the controller, and at least get static on the CB.

Thanks to those that have replied. I am very excited to enter into the valk world. Have been riding since I was 5 when I got an Indian 50 for christmas. since I am new to the site let me tell a little about myself:

Spent 11 years in special operations avation in the army and have been in the corporate IT field for closing in on 11 years. I am married with 2 beautiful daughters. We live in Suwanee Ga. So when I get the valk hopefully can find some local folks to ride with.

If this I/S doesn't check out ok. Then still have other options in the Atlanta area. Hopfully I will find the right fat lady for me quickly, looking in the garage and not seeing my vtx sitting there is killing me. Gotta ride.

Good luck and welcome.

Thanks for all the advice. I am really torn between naked "standard" or full dresser "interstate".

Be careful my friend, this has been on CL for at least 6 months or more. I monitor this area almost daily. There may not be nothing wrong with it, just thought you should know.. for what it's worth. Isn't the mileage a little high for the money? crazy2

Well the I/S I looked at did not check out too well. The hunt continues. Starting to think i might want a standard anyway.

it has hard bags to carry your camera, rain gear etc.  You can't add them later unless someone sells you a set off of a Tourer or Interstate and that usually runs at least $1200.  They are much nicer than leather bags.  A lot have bought a Standard, then decided later that they should have bought at least a Tourer if not the Interstate.  I had a Tourer, then bought an Interstate, glad I did.

What was wrong with it? I know it was on CL a long time and I guess still is. As fas as a STD, I guess it depends on what you want- lots of pros and cons. I also was thinking about an I/S but I've  been asking myself a lot of questions like how many trips do I take and how far are they. For me it's 2-400 miles on some long weekends, so not much. With my sissy bar luggage and saddlebags I can probably hold more in mine because nylon and leather stretches where fiberglass don't stretch. Ain't too crazy about tunes on a bike but can mount some speakers to my handlebars if I wanted to. People here that has both say the STD, Tourer handle better. So there's a lot to consider!

Good luck!

Thanks Tony. The bike had a lot of small dings and just didn't handle the way I thought it would. I too don't take meny long trips on a bike right n :laugh:ow. Kids still at home doesn't allow for that kinda time. Going to look at a 97 red and white standard tomorrow evening.

One thing about a standard, you can go naked in seconds!  2funny What I mean, I got E-Z brackets on my saddle bags and a quick release windshield, so I change the looks when I want. cooldude

Sorry that one didn't work out.

It was priced a little high.

Did you see this post a couple days ago:

http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,29999.0.html

It's in Orlando, FL but the miles and price are right.

As far as the handling, could it have been the tires?

The first interstate that I test rode drove like a "TANK".

Turns out the front tire was about 15 lbs low.

The one in Orlando looks good. Ask John Schmidt, he would know it or would go check it out. It is in his neighborhood. Noone would know better than John
