My friends in Sweden tell me that they pay the first $1000 dollars every year that they see a Government Doc, and some Swedes choose to go with non-government Private Doctors.

I have been working in the Czech Republic for about two years. I am coming back Aug. 1. I pay about 33% income tax/ social tax here. We get free health care and, if my kids were the right age, free college. I take 3 old man meds. Before I left, I asked for 3 months supply. Walgreens told me $600. I had hit the donut on medicare part d. I got here and the same 3 months supply was $15. I don't go to the Dr. much. But, when I do, if they say 4:00pm. That is when I am seen. The cost is zero. I make a lot less here than I did in the US, but my standard of living is higher. these folks have a few things figured out.

Its like Animal Farm I will stay here and be a free american pay my taxes and health insurance and ride my Valkyrie My great great grandparents knew what they were doing when they came here from Germany Russia and England and my great grandfather from Austria and grandpa Jack and his blue eyed blond haired sister who were the only ones in the village to escape a pogram in Czar's Poland (Russia) They couldnt own guns and in some cases not even the land they lived on. I believe otherwise God Bless America and keep her free Did not intend to make this a political thread and almost pulled this post but TODAY of all days IMO we should all remember the price of freedom and thank and bolster all who protect us while we celebrate our good fortune to be free men and women in our country The Czech repulblic looks nice maybe I will visit there some day. It's not free free free free freeee, it's paid for from their tax revenue. Here the average yearly insurance premium for a family is over $13,000. Cost of a college education runs about $30,000. I say the Swedes got themselves a pretty good deal re having a healthy, well educated society.
While we become yet more ignorant and distrustful (well, some of us do) of education and intelligence and talk wistfully of plentiful, low-paying factory jobs, make superheroes out of robber barons and cling to our guns like security blankets.

There are surveys floating out there, regarding the ranking of countries on "satisfaction / living standards". Sweden is in the top five every year. Check it out sometimes. Must be those stewardesses. That, and the so-called nanny-state.

Jim Her children are now the age my children were back then The very last one (Lena) we had looked better than that. I felt like a father on vacation with a teen aged (19) daughter when we took beach vacations. I hated that her and her swedish friends kept taking off their tops at our pool. Thank goodness we didnt have Gig visiting back then

Stretch you are a newbie and we have not yet met
I have never started a post with asking a person if they are out of their mind This is why we have PM and email I have probably PM's most of the folks who post here when something bothers me about a post and it has been universally appreciated
But since you asked The answers are no yes and yes I had rocks and bottles thrown at me in Tiberias, a mostly arab city in Israel and felt more threatened in the arab quarter of jerusalem than I ever do in a bronx ghetto And we were never on a tour bus and the worst was at a movie theater in Tiberias
Since you are a photographer and not afraid of confrontation with authority try this experiment with a friend who will take pictures
How about you put on a star of david and a skullcap and walk thru Gaza (a place where there are NO jews run by your friends at hamas)
Iran, Syria, Egypt, libya, yemen saudi arabia arab emirates and for fun wear a tallis and teffilin
see how long you last These are countries that expelled all those who are jewish that is those who survived
Should I continue?
Now if you have balls try that also as a woman then be seen driving a car in saudi arabia or just be a woman talking to a man on the street and having a coffee
oh thats right they dont have any rights either you can stone and kill your daughter for any offense
Oh and I am not welcome in bahrain, quatar and those lovely shitholes in the middle east which is fine as I have no desire to go there unless my government tells me to go
As I said in the post PM me if you are not a troll and I will be happy to discuss it further
Otherwise bugger off

Like many Americans who don't know Muslims or Arabs personally, you judge an entire group of people by the actions of a few. This is also called stereotyping (at best) and racism (at worst.)
Palestine is a war zone. Sweden is not. Comparing the two makes no sense whatsoever.
I don't have time to discuss it further, nor do I care to, really. What I read was shocking, so I responded.
The largest Muslim country in the world is... SURPRISE!... Indonesia. It's also safer than America the Beautiful, very beautiful in itself, and the people are exceedingly talented folks with a cultural history that goes back centuries.
There's a big ole world out there to see, Oss, and I don't mean from the window of a tour bus or the porthole of one of those despicable cruise ships. What you discover about actual human beings, not about "this" group of "that" group, might surprise and enlighten you.

Valker, Oss said that he'd "love to visit some day" (which means he's not visited it) "before it becomes totally muslim and it's not safe" [(which is a ridiculous statement as it insinuated that a "totally muslim" or "predominantly muslim" country is not safe (I believe he's implying for Jews)], which is simply not true.
I just don't like that kind of generalization because part of what makes the world a sucky place is that people judge others not by their actions but by the color of their skin or by giving the others a label that allows them to be defined in the most simplistic, comfortable way possible.
'taint right.

Afraid to call the country Israel Charles? Still mad at 1948 that the arabs could not destroy the pitiful remnants of the people? Calling the land Palestine tells me all I need to know about your warped mind and you have also revealed yourself to the family here You can not name one country that will stand at the UN and say ISRAEL HAS A RIGHT TO EXIST because there is no mid east country that will do so
If you had been here or took the time to learn about me you would know that I have actually had to defend having muslim friends on this very board a few years ago There is a difference between personal interaction and the agenda of organizations such as Hamas ( they produce a childrens cartoon telling children to kill jews when they arent busy smuggling rockets into Gaza and shooting them off into schools and hospitals and homes across the border And they are so spineless as to shoot them off from peoples homes and places which if destroyed bring the wrath of people such as yourself, quick to take a photo of the destroyed home but unwilling to take a picture of what the rocket killed
Muslims from asia and africa were honored guests at my childrens bar mitvahs and are always welcome in my home I wait until the dark to meet my friend for dinner during Ramadan I work with a Hindu have black relatives and spent rosh hashanah in church at a wedding twice when I could be in shul praying.
Someday I would love to visit SE in Singapore and ride with him in Vietnam and the crazy roads in his country He has sent me videos and altho we bitterly disagree many times I have elfed him and he laughed, we stay civil In fact in 8 years you are the first person I really have no desire to share the wind with Such a shame to end before one begins but its your call

What Oss said! And I will add this, Palistinans have the highest standard of living in Isreal. Jews were hanged in public squares in Syria. Chased out or communities worn down to just about non exsistants in the other Islamic Middle East countries American Solders could not bring Mennorahs into Saudi Arabia, while protecting a represive, brutal, Islamic monarchy that claims devine providence over its land and people. By the way where did most of the 9/11 terrorist come from? Nobody here said all followers of Islam were bad or evil. Yes, indonesia is the very progressive (comparitavly) country, but how many Jewish communities are there? None, really none. maybe 50 families. Now here in the USA, we can all hang together, walk the streets, and worship. With our warts, where else would you rather live?

Thank you for the, um... impassioned debate, Oss.
You're afraid to visit Sweden because you perceive a growing Muslim threat, yet because u know someone from singapore you're eager to visit that country, which is probably 25% or greater Muslim. I think you just proved my point about the dangers of generalizations & the value of judging people by the content of their character rather that a religious, racial or other label.
Finally. Fwiw, speaking of wind, I, for one, will happily break wind with you any time.

"would love visit some day before it becomes totally muslim and I cant walk with my family safely
the problem is radical islam is taking over parts of the country because all the fight has been bred out of the swedes Places of worship and people on the street are not safe for my religion ( If anyone wants to PM me off this post I will back up what I say here)
I could not walk in many neighborhoods there just because of who I am i might be killed and there is no carry allowed except for THEM who have their own laws. Its like Animal Farm"
I will stay here and be a free american pay my taxes and health insurance and ride my Valkyrie
The above is what I had written
nowhere does it state I am afraid to visit sweden
I have a lovely family (actually ALL 3 of our old au pair) who would love us to visit and a friend across the water in Norway who also would love to meet me. It is a beautiful country
If you could see what was written before you maybe you could see I want to be able to go BEFORE radical muslim takes over the countryside and it is no longer the safe and tolerant society that it was
Muslim society is NOT tolerant That is the FACT Although my process server and friends (individuals) can be what they want to be SOCIETY is not.
Your own existence, unless you are a muslim, nothing wrong with it but unless you are makes you subject to arrest at any time as a spy its just how it is over in those places where civil liberties like religious freedom are subject to an Ayatollah or a Mullah interpretation of Shahira law And dont think you cant be arrested in Indonesia. They are fighting radical islam also on a daily basis. I cant speak for SE but from what I know of him, I would say its better for him to tell you of his experiences
Thanks but No thanks , I will ride with my friends or ride alone in a free land
Send a postcard from jail when you get to Saudi Arabia or Iran or Syria and try that picture taking stunt you pulled in Miami

I visited Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq several years ago. Never really felt afraid anywhere I went.....a little nervous a few times, but that's about it. Of course, I WAS carrying an M16 with an M203 attached...and had several buddies with me. Maybe that made a difference?

Oss, I would ride with you any where, any time, except Tehran if you decided to take pictures of thier public transportaion system after the ayattoldya's said not to under threat of a fatwah.
I am at work with quite an ecclectic bunch, and we are laughing at the naitivity of some folk. The kid who's parents are from Pakistan said if you want to know what "Suck" means got to a country where the mullahs rule. Just as I would not want to have been raised by our tribal brothers in Park Slope!
We both grew up in The Bronx, Parts of which could be considered pretty rough, but we learned how to judge people on WHO they are and not WHAT they are.

And what about a devil's advocate that only desires to continually stir a pot? An unstirred pot yields a poor soup... Each ingredient separates and concentrates, and can become sour or bitter. A stirred pot yields a quality soup, which is greater than the sum of it's ingredients. Multiculturalism makes this country greater than the sum of each culture. I know there are a few that would love to drive out the Jews, Blacks, Muslims, Asians and even the native Americans, but fortunately, they are few.

Multiculturalism DIVIDES a country Bobbo.....it does not UNITE a county. A country has to stand as a unified entity. No one has a problem with legal immigration. Immigrants ARE welcome here Bobbo, they simply need to assimilate into our society. A country cannot stand divided upon itself.

You are confusing multiculturalism with patriotic unity. Many cultures can be united under the ideals of freedom and elected representative government. The US is proof of that. We would be a very bland country without the contributions of many cultures. Imagine not having good beer and wine from German and French cultures, the variety of food and seasonings from the Asian and Mexican cultures, and the music and introspective look from Black cultures. These are just a few examples, and aren't meant to be all-inclusive. Multiculturalism is a good thing, hatred and distrust of other cultures is what will divide us.

I dont think mulitculturalizm is the problem. Radical muslims as they blanket the countries they infest dont want to assimilate WITH other cultures at all. They want to irradicate other cultures so theirs is the only one left standing.
That is the problem

You are referring to ethnocentrism, which IS a problem.
