Our very first day on the Valk up on the BRP!

Lynchburg, Virginia

« on: July 04, 2011, 10:41:42 PM »

Hi All,
As some of you know, my son is going to med school in St. Lucia and was married the last September. Well, he is spending this next week with his young bride and ALL of the INLAWS uglystupid2 He has already expressed that it would be great to get away for a day or two. Shocked
OK....My questions to you Michigan residents up there are: He is staying in Rochester Hills Michigan, real close to Pontiac and Flint, MI.
Is there any Motels that would be fairly close (Hour or so) from Rochester  Hills, that would be on the water anywhere and would be considered ROMANTIC that I could surprise them with a night or two with just to get them out of "MOM AND DADS" house?  I would love it if I could get them on the water somewhere. cooldude
I would appreciate any suggestions any of you could offer!
Thank you for your time,
Tom and Joanne Tompkins

Tom,
Posted your post on the Michigan board.  I am sure someone will find you the perfect location.  Will your son have a car available?

Hi Tom,

I would highly recommend the Huron House Bed and Breakfast in Oscoda, MI on 3124 N US- 23 (989) 739-9255.  cooldude It'll be about a 2 + hour ride north of Rodchester Hills but well worth the trip.  It is for "couples only" right on the water with your own private hot tub, fireplaces in most of the rooms and a bottle of champagne.  My wife and I spent two days there in May for our anniversary and we already have made reservations for next year.  www.huronhouse.com

Another option would be The Thomas Edison Inn. It is located in Port Huron. Less than 2 hrs due east of Flint. Straight shot across I 69.http://www.thomasedisoninn.com/

If he is staying in Rochester Hills, MI.....

+1 on the Thomas Edison and, you might want to also look at the St Clair Inn and if they have passports the Caesars Casino/Hotel in Windsor.....

Caseville in the Thumb area is on Lake Huron, saginaw Bay and has many resort and B+Bs in the area

It also faces partially to the NW so you get really good sunsets....... hows that for romantic..LOL.

It is about 2.5 hours, but is seems very up north/wesr coast

I will try to make this Valk related  Grin Grin.

I am starting to put together our trip to Inzane. Looking for a nice place to stay on the water near South Haven. We plan to arrive Tuesday afternoon (7/26), have a nice relaxing meal and be in no hurry the next morning. Should still get to Bellaire around noon or shortly after.

Suggestions appreciated.

South Haven Rocks! It is a resort area, jammed with pushy people from Chicago. So if you want a place to just crash while passing through and make still Belleaire by noon, you'd be better off avoiding the S.H. crowds.  uglystupid2
If you have time, book a room there soon and stay 2 nights. Enjoy the town and the beach and Idler restaurant, which is a boat moored on the channel. Beware of supersoakers. Once you get a little further North, past Grand Haven, the accomodations, and the crowds, are more reasonable.  coolsmiley

The Thomas Edison Inn; a classy place in Port Huron right on the St Clair River that is almost exactly 1 hour away.  The dining area has a couple booths that are very private with curtains and tiffany chandeliers.  Not exactly a biker bar, but he'll get a million romantic points for the effort.  I think it was closed for a while for remodeling, but it has maintained that traditional classy atmosphere. A room with a view of the river and a jaccuzi tub is only $125.
