The cruise control on the wife's RAV 4 is a real piece of crappolla!  Set for 65 and loses 8 mph on a mild to moderate incline, then the tranny downshifts and revs real high and then she slingshots over the crest of the incline and sends you to 10 - 15 miles over the set speed on a mild to moderate decline.  My Brakeaway throttle lock does better than this and responds better when gently adjusted.

I like to use cruise control to avoid getting tickets on long rides, but I'd never trust this POS!

I don't know about your unit, but mine has some dip switches you can change.    My CC will hold 1 to 2 MPH + or - from what it is set at.

Been on MGM for over 240K and not an ounce of trouble.......

In my case, it was $$$$$ very well spent.

We have a Rav4 AWD 2006 model year and you are right about the cruse control.  That being said we just don't use the cruse control while driving in the mountains.  It is still the best winter car we have ever owned.  We put snow tires on it in the winter and it is unstoppable driving over Donner Summit in the winter.

Yes, the car does have it's good qualities.  Her's is a 2010 so we've only had it for one winter, but she likes the bad weather handling as well.  Just thought it strange that the cc acted like a throtle lock.

Shouldn't the engine do some braking when the cc is in use?

Unless you have some kind of gearless thing (like a torque converter on
a minibike or something) I don't think you can have much luck mixing
tiny motors, hills and cruise controls... maybe if the cruise control was
hooked to the automatic transmission with some kind of computer controlled
compensator all that gear change thrashing could be lessened...
