On the way home yesterday the idiot light came on while sitting in traffic, it went away after I got clear and was able to get some air flowing again. In the past the fan would come on but I never saw the light before. Checked the coolant and rode again today and happened again. Any input about the danger of pushing after the light comes on or if there may be other factors to consider. The Baker airwings help at speed, I have lowers as well that I am thinking about removing for the summer.

I assume you checked simple things first:  Is the fan coming on?  Thermostat opening?   Bad coolant mix?  It also might just be that you are in exceptional heat too.  Aren't you seeing 100+ temps out that way?  Personally, I wouldn't push it if the idiot light comes on.

As for the Bakers, I find the lowers very useful summer to direct the hot air between my legs and the bike by opening them wide enough that they scoop air in.

You mentioned that in the past the fan would come on but not the light.. So,, is the fan still coming on ?? If so, probably the temperature switch/sender.. If its not coming on, thats probably  the problem, and its probably the fan itself or its switch/sender..

As Patrick said, If your fan is coming on, my bet is on the temp. relay switch, Honda calls this an INDICATOR UNIT, part #38710-MZ0-003.  It goes for about $45.00.
I pulled and flushed my radiator, changed my sensors, changed my thermostat, monkeyd with my fan...All BEFORE I discovered this is a common problem. I hope yours is a quick easy fix cooldude

Yeah temps have been high around here. checked the coolant mix and the fan is coming on. The light doesn't come on until I get to a long stop light I can't avoid. Those 5 minutes of stop and go and it will come on(fan too), once I get through the light Bakers scoop air in and it will go off fairly quickly. I have additional lovers that I think are not helping with this issue so I am removing them for the season. What is the function of temp relay switch and how can I test it? I assume the thermostat is not the issue as it would stay overheated or happen more often or all the time.

My temp. light has been coming on this year, and it'll stay on for
5 minutes then go off, when it should'a stayed on. Gotta be that
Indicator Unit.
Going to the stealer to find out what their (always) higher price is.

[ Edit ]

The stealer near me wants $70 for the part. Holy %@#$.
I'm going to a honda car dealer to see if they have a
similar, cheaper part.

May be a stupid question but seeing you're in NM, did you get hammered by the dust storm?  uglystupid2
