Has anyone done this?  The only vents I've found from any source are for Goldwings and their windshields are both thinner and flatter.

Thoughts?  Suggestions?

TIA

Disco;
The idea of installing vents on the M/S Batwing is new to me.
Now I'm curious to see some photos showing the vent-types that you are referencing.

Here in the City of the Fallen Angels, we are going through a heat-wave.
I found it best to remove the Batwing...
and stay relatively-cool while riding under the dry-heat.

Perhaps Memphis shade might comment on the question. I would think that this inquiry is not new to them.
???
The practicality of nice looking vents is a great idea. I am receptive to learn from the replies coming to your post.

I'd hope that you won't mind my participation...such as posting questions or replies on the subject of retrofitting vents to a Batwing.

I'd really would like to see some photos showing the vent-types available... Do you have any pics of the vents that you have in mind?

Disco; I thank you much for bringing this question to the forum.

That vent has some pro's and con's.

I bought a Honda SEi with one in the shield, greatest invention since sliced bread.

Was following my buddy, RIP Frank, in Canada on a freshly laid asphalt.   His trailer tire picked up a little turd of a piece left over and tossed it straight thrown that vent and onto my lip.   Gloves on and in traffic so it was hard to knock it off.     Well you can guess the outcome, I still carry a nice scar on my lip from that damn piece of asphalt.    One reason I wear a mustache, so as to cover the scar.

To cure the problem, I took the vent out, fitted a piece of screen door screen to it and reinstalled.   That stopped the big chunks but it didn't stop the bug juice that I got on my shirt, jacket or whatever I was wearing.

Ran through those damn Florida bugs once coming home, it juiced up my shirt and jacket pretty good and then plugged up the hole.     That was a beech to get it all cleaned up and I had to replace the screen, wasn't worth trying to clean it out.

Other than that, it was a great item, it did kick through a pretty good stream of air at speed.

Would I put another one in a windshield, probably NOT.

Just my humble opinion, which everyone has.

Hey Paxton,

For pictures, do a search, any search, for Goldwing windshield vent, and you'll see plenty of examples.  One of the VRCC sponsors, F4 Customs, sells two versions (one for oem replacement and one for their thicker, scratch-resistant, far superior product), as do several others, including Memphis Shades.

I don't like to ride without some form of windshield or fairing.  I just want to 1) be able to get some extra air if I need it, and 2) get some laminar flow going up and over my visor.  I can tip my head down and escape the buffeting for a while, but that gets old.  I can also slump in my seat a bit to get lower, but not with the Butt Buffer in place, and our route to InZane XI and back will exceed 4,000 miles.  I'd like a couple more options.

The person I spoke with at Memphis Shades was very courteous and understanding, but said the company has nothing to offer  ???   and that those decisions are made by their parent company (Parts Unlimited?).

I've been referred to Firecreek Accessories, but have not contacted them directly or worked through the options there yet.  If the vent issue is a non-starter, they are my next target.  I have friends who have products from Aero Flow, but they don't have anything for the Valkyrie or Memphis Shades batwing.

Thanks, RJ,

From my experience on the GL1800, the pros outweigh the cons.  BUT, I only wore bugs, not asphalt.   Wink

I would do the mod in a minute if someone could tell me how they tweaked the fitment.  Worst case: I buy a $60.00 vent and some extra plex, then "sacrifice" a year-old windshield for the experiment.  I have no doubt I could make it work.  I'm just afraid I'll wind up with a frankenshield that looks bad and performs worse.
