I had not been checking my MPG on my "new" 2001 Standard until recently. I just returned from a one half day group ride today and got 38.00 MPG. From what I have been reading, that doesn't look bad at all.

Nope, not bad at all! The best I ever got was around 36mpg -- in a group ride. My overall average is between 30 & 32mpg.

Don't get use to that high MPG. As you get more accustom to the bike and ride it with more gusto the mileage will decrease.
Have fun

Usually within 5 OVER, and as high as 80.
Guaranteed that I won't race you to the next intersection, but I will probably be there before you leave it. I do not 'goose it' when starting like many do, but I don't think any who have ridden with me would call me an 'old lady' either.
There are times for hard acceleration, but it is NOT all the time.

If you get good mileage, you may want to keep that info to yourself. Some folks will call you a "Liar" if it seems better than theirs. (PS-Yours sounds about right to me)

(that was still the best vacation ever ....please don't let my wife read this) I do....... My point is when we started riding together in a group the average mpg started getting very close between the 4 bikes. Depending mainly on speed it seemed like everybody got within a few 10th's of a gallon at each fill up. I am soooooooo ready for next Thursday! Woohooooo!

Spent the last tank driving very conservatively. Blue hairs were taking me off of the line and I kept my shifts under 3000 RPM, I also kept my highway RPM's under 3K.
177.8/5.58=31.86 MPG
I guess I have one of the fast Valk's not one of the fuel efficient ones.

My last two tanks today on 2K (2000 standard) I got 39 and 37 mpg. I haven't calculated mileage on most of the stops yet, it's only been a little over 2 weeks since we left home

36 to 37 mpg most of the time... It's all good, unless I'm in Big Bend and go on reserve at 91 miles??? (that's allmost 23 mpg) That place has wind, open roads and turns.... turn after turn after turn.... What a great place to ride in February! Blotar

you can get better milage and more power if you add "rocket fuel" to your tank before a long run. sold at HD shops or maybe others, look on the counter. that's where they keep it. ours gets about 25 or 30, depending on how much 'showing off ' Rednecks doing.
