A while ago someone posted about a pilot falling out and they got lucky finding it on top of the motor.   Same thing just happened to me, except it came apart.  Separate needle, spring, washer, and o-ring.  Now here is a reason to keep the bike clean....I found all the pieces and was able to put the jet back together and reinstall.   all is well.   Luck or skill, you decide   uglystupid2

that's the idle mixture screw. the pilot jet is inside of the bowl.

That was me, a few years back on my 80 GL1100. Amazing luck coming off the hi way onto a farm with dirt driveway and parking area...
