I had a real good ride today with some Harley riders.One teenage boy thought my Valk was great so I decided to show him the nickle trick.I asked him for a nickle an all he had was a penny so I thied it an it was difficult to balance but it did .The harley guys were amazed an one said to the other harley rider that they might try to do it with a brick.How about that?

A close HD friend saw my nickle trick and he said he could do that too. Except he would use a dollar bill and the old oil would stick it to the engine so it wouldn't fall off. He rode a '76 Shovelhead.

At idle sitting on it's sidestand my Buell would actually start to walk away if it was on anything other than a completely level surface. I don't think a brick on it's long side would stay up for long.  |

and try to put my helmet on before the gloves and glasses hit the ground...

Now that sounds VERY familiar from my dearly beloved but oh-so-shaky XS 850 Triple. Gloves and glasses actually did beat my HJC on my noggin many a time......  |

I got out of a traffic ticket with a coupla motorcops when showing to them... another cop went roaring past and they then took my ticket and tore it up....lol...

leave her on the side stand,the parking space must be fairly level is all. once the nickle is balanced just hit the start button and run the tach up !  Now a funny thing I noticed when curiously testing this trick, if you have a carb or two just a hair off sync, you can actually turn the nickel with the throttle. The little vibration that takes place turns it just a little, depending on the angle of your parking there. Properly sync'd Valkyrie, it's like the coin is just glued in there. And I DO have to remember to show the nickel thing next time I get pulled over.....  |

OK, I've seen it on You Tube but never tried it myself. Other than holding her level is there any tricks I need to know? I plan to go to bike night tomorrow at Quake & Shake and is about 99.8% Harleys! So how hard is it? Do I need alot of practice or just keep her level as I stradle the bike and bend down and put the nickel on it? I won't hardly have much time to practice and don't want them laughing at me and my Honda!  leave her on the side stand,the parking space must be fairly level is all. once the nickle is balanced just hit the start button and run the tach up ! Great, That sounds easy enough!! Thanks! |

Last summer, I posted about stopping in at a party a friend was having at a central Wisconsin bar... Impressed some hard core bikers with the 'nickle trick'... Here is the post.
A good friend of mine was having a '5 Alive' party... Celebrating 5 years on the green side of the sod, since having one of her kidneys removed due to Cancer.
The location of the shindig, was about 55 miles north of my place, and we were having a fine Wisconsin day... Temps in the 60's and hazy sunshine...l I'm takin' da Bike
The place, 'The Roadhouse', in Dundee Wisconsin, is in the middle of no where, and a 'Biker' bar! Not often ya see 'Milwaukee Outlaws', and Milwaukee 'Top Hats', sharin the same parking lot... Now, I know that I've got the baddest bike on the block, but when parked among a sea of HD, with their owners drinking near by... I get nervous (I once had someone lay a lit cig, on the seat, and burn a nice hole in it...). So I try to go and take a peak at my baby every so often... No issues, they all seem to be there for the same reason - Drinking and listenin' to the band.
When it came time for me to leave, I walk out, and there are six guys sporting the 'Milwaukee Outlaw' colors, and a few other, leather clad owners, standing in a circle, around the Valk... I walk on over, pop open a saddle bag, and start 'gearin' up'... One of the OL dudes sez, "so and so says that's a Honda..." I say 'yep, a Valkyrie'... He sez "That's a big Fu@k!n engine"... I say '1520 cc, and 6 cylinders'... He sez, Does it sound like a Honda? I say no... Packs n Stacks... And I fire her up... More than one eyebrow was raised... OL dude sez "Bet that's all day smooth"... Feeling an opening, I ask if anyone has a nickle? Once handed one, I procede to stand it up (engine still running), and bounce the Tach over 3K a few times... All of them just bust out laughing... One sez to the 'leader', "Try that with your bike, and we'd be lookin' for the nickle across the street"... Lotsa good 'props', and a bit of drool, from a nice buncha HD guys... It was fun, and when I left, I managed to break the rear tire lose, just enough to make 'em back up a bit...

I have heard that the new nickles don't work. I haven't tried it but something to think about.
At work we joke that if we tried this trick with our HD's that they would make change and throw coins all over the parking lot.

Oh don't get me wrong, I still do have the XS850 ( Midnight Special ) and am in no hurry to part with her. 750 Special is basically the same bike, just that 850 is, well, that much bigger and has a reworked primary drive. And Hitachi carbs. But since she is a 3 cylinder.....well.... let's just say that when you want to check the mirrors to see that everyone's still in the pack, you need to find the right rpm to be able to count the headlights. Not the figure 8's of headlights |
