I am sure you might get a few opinions on the smallest/best etc etc.... but it all depends on what your requirements are.   Here is a  bit of info that might help you out some....  consider NETBOOK vs Notebook or Laptop and see if you can find one that meets your criteria.

I've never seen one with smaller than a 13.3" screen.  That's not the only spec in size of a laptop, but it's a good approximation.  Here's the first (i.e. random) hit on 13.3" screens at frys.com.  There are a number of others out there.

I don't think you can get a netbook with internal cd drive... if you know of one, let me know.

Thanks for the link... I was hoping to find one a bit smaller, but I'm probably SOL on that.

Probably right... I didn't research it.  However.... a question you might want to ask yourself is... what do I need this notebook/netbook for?  Could you use a portable CD/DVD drive when needed and a flash drive at other times?   You know your requirements better than anyone else of course.

Have to ask--Why do you need a CD drive?

CD drives are just like the floppy drives a few years ago, less and less need for one.

Yeah, I think that's as small as you can get without getting too small to include what is, after all, a large piece of hardware.

I will throw in my 2 cents, that I have a netbook that has never had a CD drive plugged into it.  I use a desktop for ripping music and movies off my discs, and put them all on via flash drive/USB hard drive/whatever.  I got the mini-laptop for its portability, and use the desktop for the higher end work.
However, as has been stated, you're the final arbiter of your own requirements.

Tons of options in a 13" notebook with a DVD combo drive.   A very slim few in 12".

Obviously everyone has there specific needs(CD/DVD), but I haven't actually used a DVD/CD in quite a few years.  At least not on my notebook.  If I need to rip cd's or DVD's I do that on my desktop iMac.
