Relative newbie here...
Bought my 99 I/S w/ 52K miles from Phillips Pro Cycle in Carbondale, IL first week of June and rode it back to St. Peters, MO. Have put about 400 miles on it since. No problems.
This weekend I will take my first mini road trip. 300 miles to Kuttawa KY on Fri., 300 miles of riding the Land Between the Lakes KY and TN on Sat., and 300 back home on Sun. Oil seems fine, tire pressure fine, tires (both MC) have at least 50% tread (I am planning to buy Avons or Metzlers over the Winter break.) Of course Phillips Pro Cycle claims to have "professionally serviced and inspected" the bike before I bought it and the oil was changed the day I bought it... my question is what should I be inspecting before this 900 mile trip away from home?
I know a lot of you guys have ridden to the moon and back, so maybe I am just being a worry wart... just want to be safe!

Did they give you a warranty?
If so, just ride the hell out of it.
If not, pull the rear wheel and inspect the splines. If they are lacking grease, do the job right and follow the correct procedure to tighten everything up.
THEN, ride the hell out of it.
Rear wheel inspection about every 10K or tire replacement.
These things are bullet proof.
DDT out of Georgia has over 400K on his.
I have 242K+ on mine.
Both of us have had to replace splines due to wear, not from lack of grease.

I think you covered it on the bike...if it's in generally good shape 1000 miles won't even make it sweat. Tires good, oil changed, rear end serviced, she'll go. Make sure credit card is in wallet. That'll cover anything else

Check your gas tank often, enjoy your ride.
I would check breaks and tire pressure...
It's a Valk, they are built to be riden...
Ride safe and post pics when you get back.

On Saturday we will be riding from Kuttawa KY roundabouts to Dover TN where we will lunch at Cindys Catfish Kitchen on Donelson Pkwy. We will be taking the Trace/KY-463 back to our motel in Kuttawa. I have no idea of our timeframes though!

Thanks for the advice everyone! I think she is ready to go... I hope my rear-end can say the same! I will definitely be packing light and will bring the plastic... hopefully only for gas and food!

Cindy's puts on a good spread you should enjoy yourself. If you have time you might want to visit Fort Donaldson.

I've been getting that part wrong for years... I pretty much tear the entire thing apart a couple days before the ride. It's like some sort of sick masochistic tradition...

Think I have that disease also, pulled both wheels, greased splines, checked bearings, changed oil. Re-torqued the head bearings etc, went through everything I could get my hands on. Getting ready to head to Inzane.
