EDIT: Thread Originally Titled "Oddly, Changed the Ride"
My '98 tourer has the same seat covering the entire time I've owned it. It has black leather seats with a custom stitch that my local upholstery shop thinks was done quickly at a rally based on the lines. The stitching across the back of the pilot's seat is opening at the seams. Now it's time to get the seat either repaired or changed and I'm voting for change. My birthday is coming up and my wife suggested my parents recover my seats which is a fine idea since it needs to be done.

I've had a fuzzy idea of what I want in the new seat covering, so today Dad and I broke out some masking tape and started playing with new lines and ideas to help visualize. As a personal point of view, I'm not a fan of black seats on motorcycles since so many motorcycles have black seats. I want something a bit different with at least a little color.

We pulled the seats and headed to the upholstery shop. The upholster made some notes but cannot get to it until next Tuesday, after he picks up the colors and material I want, so I brought my seats back home for the week. At home I decided not to reinstall the pillion and sissy bar pad. I only hooked the front seat in for the next week.

Tonight as I headed to trivia I was struck by how odd it felt to only have the pilot seat on the bike. I have never realized how much I must lean back against the passenger pad when I'm riding solo. Even after riding to the bar for trivia and riding the long way home (it's a beautiful night tonight) the bike still felt as if it sat differently. Oddly, the change in feel wasn't something I expected. Odd.

Oh well next week I drop all of the seats off for the new covering anyway.

I'll post pics when its done.

I'm not a fan of boring black seats and wanted something with a little color, but I also wanted something a bit different from the Valk seats I have seen. Dad had suggested flame stitching and other things I had seen before and I just wanted something different.

I'm happy with the combo and design. The local upholstery shop did a great job on creating what I wanted. I had used tape over my former leather upholstery to indicate what I wanted. Yet again, he has come through.

I'm happy. Being happy with how they turned out I wanted to share.

In discussions last week with the upholsterer we decided burgundy vinyl would be the closest match to the color. When he was buying material he decided to take a risk on the burgundy leather thinking that it would hold up better long term. I would have been fine either way. Both are nice options.

The color was as important as picking up the lines from the tank.

I was skeptical when I saw the burgundy leather in his dark office, but in the sunlight it looked better. In some lights the burgundy is much to dark but in other lights it is spot on the right color. Since the leather doesn't reflect light like paint it is a tricky match. Understanding that I am happy with how this turned out.

Overall I think it accentuates the color theme. The helmet still matches.

On second thought we should have planted the crete myrtles in burgundy instead of red. Oh well.

Thanks Dino. I thought this would be a better picture than the quick texts I sent you today. I'm heading your way next weekend. You'll be able to see the bike in person.
