Hello, I am the new proud owner of a 1998 Valkyrie Standard. Well its not in my possession yet but come Thursday it will be. Looking for someone who can help me De-Smog the beast and put an electronic fuel shut off valve on it. I'm not to mechanically inclined otherwise I would do it alone. I could exchange work for money, beer, food, fuel, or all of the above. Thanks in advance for all the responses! Contact Info: Jason Oyler jason.oyler@hotmail.com

A significant number of us live near Topeka. Some actually in Topeka.
I'll let one of them give you a hollar rather than volunteering for them.
Incidentally, we have a Kansas gathering in Wamego coming up in August. Check at the bottom of this thread: http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,8315.360.html

Thanks for the response and thanks for the link. Wamego is so close I would have to be sick not to make it! The GF and I have been looking for a fun weekend getaway, this will be perfect. Look forward to meeting some fellow Valkyrie owners and maybe some Topeka guys.

Well I know that these things haven't been done to the bike by talking to the owner and why wait for Hydro-Lock when you can take preventative measures? Same goes for the de-smog. Thanks, Jason

However, if it'll set your mind at ease, do it. It will be good experience.

valid concerns..but no need for panic. Take some time to get some miles and bond with her (LOT OF MILES) You will have plenty of help local enough, I'm pretty sure

You can guard against hydrolock just by turning the petcock lever to off when not riding your bike. It still could happen if the petcock goes bad, but it is much better odds that it won't. If you need a desmog you will know it by the way it runs, usually when the vacumn lines go bad. Hope to see you in Wamego next month. BTW, Roadkill, I rode the ride route you sent me yesterday, all the roads are in good shape. I love riding K57 and K99! Hoser

Jason,
Congrats on your soon to be new bike to you. I live in topeka and can help you but like some have already mentioned. Ride the bike for a bit and if you want bring it by and we can look at it and see if this is needed. Some have just switched out the petcock with a pingle I just bought the rebuild kit and installed it for peace of mine. Give me a call when you get the bike and we can meet up. We have some great members of the vrcc hefe in kansas look forward to meeting you.

Welcome from a fellow newbie. I did the same thing Jason when I was waiting to pick up my Phat Girl. I had a considerable list of things to do as soon as I got her home after reserching all the up's and downs. After a 2700 mile ride home my list was down to about 4 minor things. Good luck and enjoy. BTW get ready for some unexpected attention, people arn't used to seeing a bike this big move this QUICK !!

Jason, Welcome from North Newton! Today is Friday so I am assuming you are out riding. You have discovered one of the best things about the VRCC, the people. Enjoy your ride and we will look forward to meeting up with you in the near future. Joe, Stude31, as other have said is a good wrench, but more importantly a good person. But be warned he will try and get you to go to a burger shop in Allen, Ks! Good luck with that!! JDW

Hello, I am the new proud owner of a 1998 Valkyrie Standard. Well its not in my possession yet but come Thursday it will be.
Welcome! Now, inquiring minds want (need) to know... What color, How many miles, How does she run, etc. etc... You got her Thursday, c'mon man, give us some details! LOL Seriously though, we have a pretty good group of people in the area with a decent amount of experience with "the Fat Lady" and while I don't want to speak for anyone else, I can't think of anyone in the area who wouldn't be happy to answer questions or help figure out a problem. As far as the Desmog and Petcock go, I would suggest getting the bike and we can see what you are dealing with and find out what it really needs.

Hoser, no I did not but I will be sureto take a look at it.
Valkified, I'm sure thats what will happen to me.
Emgemt, He wont have to try very hard, lol.
Gunslinger, Sorry for the confusion but its next Thursday that I pick it up. It's a 98 Standard black with 14,300 miles. Comes with Cobra 6x6 exhaust, windshield, and Ultimate King Big Boy touring seat.
I'll keep you guys posted!

???You guys are pretty funny! I was just there on the way back from wdvalks place. See now if it wasn't such a challenge to get there when it is open. That is part of the journey and the story wouldn't be as much of a story if there wasn't a fun story to add to it! Jason I'll take you there and you will like it! I just hope they are open I can't wait to see your bike jason!

He is asking $6200. It's been there awhile, offer him $5000 and go from there if you want it. Hoser
