How are you all beating this heat wave? Up here in NE Ind today it was 92 with heat index of 103. Gonna be like this for a week but with hotter temp. Maybe some rain later. Corn looks very thirsty.    Was gonna ride yesterday but decided not to. Had a movie day. 
Kit made me put the a/c in the house window a month ago. I guess coming home and having the house 92 deg was a tad much for her.  My construction job we got alot of outside work to do. Got off early today tho. Sittin here trying to dry out. Gotta work EMS tomorrow. The a/c in the back cant keep up when the sun beats down on the box. Last week we had my partner and I, 2 pts, and 2 FF in the back. What a sweat box. Trying to start IV's and dripping all over the poor guy. Felt bad. Hard to work 24hrs with a wet ass! She told me last shift she brought a extra pair for this week. Hers aint much anyway.    Guess I better pack some.

Cant wait to go west where it will be cooler.

Mark is working in a non ac garage. Even with both doors open, the heat and humidity is way up there.
There are very few ac dealer service areas.  No breaks either in AC areas.  All work is done in the heat.

Fans help very little when the heat index is 105 like today.

 put gas tank back on after replacing air filter and took a test ride around for about 30 miles.  105*  not so bad moving but at a light, torture.

I'm staying in an A/C'ed house or maybe making a quick trip in the Truck with the A/C on full blast, and wearing as few clothes as I can get by with.

So I'm staying fairly comfortable.

Got a lot of Honey Do's and Wanta Do's, but if it isn't in the A/C, screw it, it can wait till it cools off, a whole bunch

Heat index, the turkey on the local channel says it is 118, temp 102.

I spent much of Saturday in my grandmother's attic clearing it for her move. At one point I found a weather station (barometer, thermometer, hygrometer) and it read 130 degrees.

I also routinely work on top of airplane tails up in the rafters. It's gets well into the 100's up there.

I work outside in the heat of summer and cold of winter.  It's been a tough one here in Oklahoma this year.  For riding I am sure to drink LOTS of water.  Every third or fourth liter I try to drink a sports drink of some sort.  I won't drink the sugared up ones but there are some zero calorie drinks now that still offer some benefits.

If you can, wear a loose fitting long sleeve shirt instead of a t-shirt or one of the vented jackets.  Something to keep the sun from beating down on your skin will help.  It sucks when your stopped but it really does help over the long haul.

Drink water.  Lots of it.

You can also wet your shirt for a little extra relief but in this heat that only really helps for a few minutes before it's dried out again.  Wet bandanas are nice for a little while too.

Drink water.  LOTS of it.

Take breaks.  Don't push it too hard.

sounds funny but i run a cold mill. 126 degrees on the floor when its running good. i focus on my 2 week ride. only 1 week and 4 days left. i am headed south. right past smoking joe, then up in to the park way. after thgis week i wont whine if it rains a lil. in the wind at 100 degrees is better than at work.

Fudgie, if your in the heat there's no way to beat it. It beats you.

I used to fabricate and install copper roofs.
90* on the ground in the shade meant it was >=160* 2' above the copper as determined by an oven thermometer with the sun.

Add in direct contact with the copper and an antique charcoal pot to heat the 2.5 lb. soldering irons just a few feet away & of course high humidity and we're talking serious hell.

Got to the point where we were on site at 4:30 am and gone at 11:00 am. It was still torture...
A particular museum roof took 10 months [26 sheet metal workers] which we began in a cold & snowy Chicago December.
I spent the last 6 weeks of the project all alone out there - because I unfortunately was the only one able to complete the detailed custom work.

My own fault, I refused an apprentice because I wasn't yet old enough to pass on or share the trade secrets yet.
Not until I had my own business anyway and didn't have the time to do it myself. I'm sure those guys are doing well now, but not today!
I retired 5 years ago for health reasons. Perhaps it's all due to roasting for so many years...

Oh yeah, I set my guys up with propane pots - that's all I could do to help with the heat.

The radio stations used to express sympathy for the road crews. I came so close to inviting those news casters up on the copper roof to see what hot was truly like. Guess I was more afraid of them passing out and falling then proving them presumptuous.

I don't fair too well in the heat anymore...I won't [can't] even ride when it's 85* or more and I'm only 52!

I too work outside. I install all types of signs. Most of the time I am stacking and welding steel pipe for the sign pole. Signs are anywhere from 1 foot off the ground to 150 foot up. If it is a 100* on the ground and your welding you can bet it just as hot 150' off the ground also. You have to get inside the signs to weld them to the poles and it can get as hot as 135* inside and then add in the heat from the welding My crane truck has a/c so we work for an hour and take a 10 minute break, drink gallons of water. The owners are good guys and understand that we have to take more breaks in the Summer. I eat tons of green olives because I am not a big fan of bananas. The boss says take as many breaks as you need so we do. No reason to kill yourself installing a sign

I'm a mechanic and electrician in a large industrial laundry. 300 HP boiler in my shop. Live steam being blown into the air in many places in the plant. Humidity is so high you can see the outlines of the overhead pipes in the condensation dripping on the floors.

No way to get away from it. You have to be careful first thing in the morning before you are soaked. That's when the heat seems most likely to make me sick anyway. Just gotta hope nothing breaks next to the ceiling. The heat up there is unreal. Within an hour of being there I feel sorry for anyone whose fan I have to walk in front of. But, I think it's easier than working out in the sun. That's gotta be way tough right now.

Really lookin' forward to headin' North a week from Wednesday.

Pretty warm here in north Alabama also.  I love it!  If it wouldn't storm and rain every day, I could ride all the time.  Won't be long before it's back in the 60's and the bike is put up for winter.  Enjoy it while it's here cause cold suxs.

So far I can take the cold,,, yes it gets cold in Sunny California. Last year I rode against a head wind and ran over 90Mph all the way home, it was 36* outside on my thermometer and I think if memory serves that all works out to something close to ZERO degrees with wind chill figured in. Now the heat the hottest I can remember riding in was about 95ish and the stop lights were surely the worst of it but my helmet is also all black and I am a ATGATT kinda guy and I only had a all leather traditional biker jacket with NO vents "farkle" now that was hot for me.

In less than 3 weeks I will be headed out to Las Vegas with a couple of friends and their wives for 6 days should be around 101-104 from weather history averages. Hoping to meet up with HotRod for a ride maybe out to the damn DAM. We will have mesh jackets cooling vests flip face modular helmets mesh gloves my wife's helmet is silver and I am installing a hydration pack under my trunk rack for her. We will be leaving out around 4:00am (trying to beat the mid day heat) and stopping in Bartsow around noon-ish then start back out the next morning damn they want to take 2 days to run a 9 hour ride..... The ride will be a love hate for me,  I am sure..

Now, since I retired long ago, I stay inside on these days.  Drives me nuts.

I've had my share of working in heat.  VW mechanic,  production worker at IH,  warehouse worker, etc.
The worse tho was wiring old houses, climbing into the attic and pulling in new wire.  Heat, plus sweat, plus insulation, couldn't do that today.

Hey it's looking pretty good up here for the weather next week...at least thru Thursday. Sunny, 80 ish, relative humidity in the low 60 %s...Goldilocks days!! Y'all come on up and cool off! (but don't show up this week coz it's hotter n hell right now  

I gotta take lots of breaks, drink lots of fluids and get into the AC. It doesn't help that I have an autogenerative thermal augmentation system switchin' on at inconvenient times

I stay locked in the house with the AC on along with my ceiling fans. I absolutely,,,, "HATE",, the heat! I know I'm in the minority, but I'll take the cold winter over the hot summer any time! My Valk trike only goes out in the cooler weather.

I feel for you folks to the East of us.  We had a late cold spring, and only a week or so of Normal summer temps so far this year.  We have been 10 degrees cooler than normal for the last couple of weeks.  It'll eventually get hot here (low 90's), maybe next week, and it will really hurt.  Low 70's one day then low 90's the next.

Very wet and cool spring...  Now, and for the past few days, mid to upper 90's with Dew Points hovering around 70 (Sunday my thermometer regestered a 98* high)...  Sticky, muggy, not fun...

This Fat Boy is looking forward to some cooler weather in NW Michigan, next week!

Until then, I'm hunkering down in my air conditioned office, trying to clear my plate for a week of vacation
