She just didn't wanna miss her chance to be a part of the 27 Club... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/27_Club I think if I had a kid that was a famous musician, I'd have them committed on their 27th birthday and not let 'em out 'till they're 28...

I always wondered just who the hell is Amy Winehouse and why should I care. Guess I know now, and guess what? I don't care.

She was actually a very talented singer... Amy Winehouse - You Know I'm No Good (External Embedding Disabled) Sadly, the really skilled ones die off, but we've still got Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, etc...

On my M S N home page along with her death is a list of more than 20 rock and roll stars who along with winehouse expired at 27 years of age. Don't know how to post that stuff but should be easy to look up. I'm 66 years old and it still looks like it's sex drugs and rock and roll. RIDE SAFE.

I never heard of her either, only because I'm, "past prime". I'm sure my parents didn't know Jimmi, Janis or Jim. Still, it's very sad that a young person died. My wife has said many times that there is a fine line between great talent (academics, arts, etc,) and insanity. I think she's right. Sad

Wow. She did have talent. To bad it's gone to waste. I actually liked some of her stuff....... Amy Winehouse - In My Bed (External Embedding Disabled) Amy Winehouse 'Back To Black' (External Embedding Disabled) Some of you might have heard of her before not realizing who she was. You might have heard this on the radio before...... Amy Winehouse - Rehab (External Embedding Disabled)

She checked herself out a couple of months ago. Rehab only works for those that want to quit bad enough. Marty

My feelings exactly. Any human death is a sad event. Even more so when it's a young person. And worst of all when it's because of something so senseless as drugs.

It doesn't make me happy, but it don't break my heart either , people with all that talent and money and still go all to hell with substance abuse don't deserve much sympathy. And I mean all of them. JMHO HOSER

I know enough about her music to know that she was VERY talented. I didn't know her and she wasn't a part of my life, so I won't miss her. But like almost everyone she had at least a few people who loved her, like maybe her mom and dad. That's sad. Drugs or not, talented or not, it's gotta be the absolute worst feeling in the world to lose your child.

Yes, but I bet if the parents were "close" to her, they probably knew there was a strong posibility of this happening. It couldn't have caught them totally off guard.
I watched the video of her last performance, she was boo'ed off the stage because she was too trashed to remember the words. The rest of the tour was canceled.
That makes me wonder if she became depressed and did something drastic.

Yes, it is tough....been there with one daughter at age 45, cancer. My oldest is presently battling a recurrence of breast cancer after ten yrs., latest PET scan shows her spine is covered with lesions, nothing showed there three months ago. Neither were involved with drugs, both extremely talented. The one we lost would be 50 in August, the other is 53....hoping to see 54 and beyond. In the end, we play the hand we're dealt. So when I see a young person literally throw their life away like Amy did, with all that talent and worldly possessions, I can't help but wonder "WHY!"

Certainly possible. As far as parents go, seeing it coming might make it easier to bear. Then again maybe not. I hope to never find out.

Best of luck and prayers to your other daughter. And yeah, it's also shameful when someone wastes a perfectly good life that someone else could use.

I heard on the news today that her mother said she was not surprised it happened. We also lost a daughter (as an infant), and it sticks with you the rest of your life. I feel bad for her family to have seen this and not been able to help her. Too bad that this happens so often.

I am not much into most "new" music, but I loved her stuff for the most part. I remember after she hit it big a few years ago her father made a public plea to Amy's fans that they not purchase her songs or attend her concerts as her addictions were out of control due to the money rolling in.

That's an interesting angle. Sadly it wouldn't have worked anyway. She'd still have more than enough money to kill herself. What happens when money becomes tighter is that you just buy cheaper drugs or start doing something like huffing. Like someone said earlier; you have to WANT to get off that crap and get your life in order for it to work. Simply running low on money won't do it. Keith Richards says in his book that he was always able to get the highest quality cocaine and heroin (pharmaceutical grade stuff) because of his money and connections and he attributes that fact and his careful dosing to his surviving it all.

Tragedy, no matter how you slice it. The blabbers are all saying how she just wanted to be loved. Common plea for those with "it all". IE Karen Carpenter.

At least five Facebook contacts had to report Winehouse's death, one of whom had no idea who she was. When its not a celebrity death, it's a motorcycle related death or some poor kid who was killed over seas. I'm still doing my best to celebrate life.
