I left southern Florida Wednesday and just arrived in Amarillo,TX (1584 miles) It's not that it's many miles in a day, but talk about HOT!! Texas is a long ass state at 105 degrees!. It's not that I am that tough (or stupid, some may beg to differ), but I have to meet my S.O. at the Page,AR airport next week to start our (her) vacation from the Grand Canyon (north rim) then on to Zion, Brice Etc.
I am going to be in northern New Mexico next week before I meet her any sugestions on any good camping areas in the mountains?

Try Google Earth and focus on the places you want to go. Then refine the search for "Camping" and then "campgrounds". You'll be surprised how many show up. BTW: Stick to higher altitudes this time of year. It's hot as you know.

Fort Walton Beach, Florida I'm a simple man, I like pretty, dark haired woman and breakfast food.

If I was going to go on a vacation this time of year, I think it'd have to be anywhere from around SF area up to Vancover.  The temps in that part of the country have been in the 60's all summer from what I hear.

Last year I stayed in a forest service campsite near Red River.  It was a pretty nice town to visit, but I got rained and hailed on and I think I was just short of hypothermia by the time I got the hell off the mountain and into the heat the next morning.  As soon as I dried off I went from shivering to cooking, but it was all good.

Jacob Lake just North of North rim is not much more than a campground. I passed thru 2 weeks ago and it looked nice (read cool temp wise).

There is an inexpensive but nice mom and pop motel near the east entrance of Zion. I've stayed there twice. Give it a try if it's smoking hot out and you don't want to camp.

Mt Carmel Mountain motel and R.V. park.

Enjoy the trip North Rim was great.

If you plan on camping in a National Forest, you need to call before you go. Lincoln National Forest is CLOSED. Extreme fire danger. I wouldn't be surprised if others are closed as well.

I just got home from a week in northern NM. Carson as well as most other nat'l forest roads and areas are closed. There is great camping at a ski area called Sipapu on highway 518 between Las Vegas and Taos. The tent sites are $9. There is some free camping in the area also. The daytime temps at Sipapu were 60s and 70s with lows in the 40-45* range.
