I went to a Honda dealer (newly owned by the local Honda car dealership) to place an order for parts yesterday about lunchtime. They were nice, helpful, etc. It was a fine transaction overall. As I was going to leave I was about to ask when the parts would be in, but before I could the sales person volunteered the info (which just makes sense, everyone should ask that question before they walk away). He said, "the parts should be in tomorrow."  What? A one day turn around?  Apparently the parts were fairly local and they were shipping.
I didn't believe it.  I'm used to settling into a few days of waiting when I order parts from a Honda dealership.
Partly that is based on the parts. Nearly all the good stuff must be housed in California.
I called today, before lunch, and the parts are in!
So I'm going to go pick them up.

I've been impressed by the transaction. Helpful and prompt is a nice pairing.

Salinas Honda (Gastonia NC) recently moved into an old lumber yard building.

Ofcourse I also like the fact that after the rows of Shadows and sport bikes on the show room floor they also have a 1974 CB750!  If I were going to buy a bike from a dealership...

I sure wish ours were like that around here.  The two larger ones overcharge for everything and are super slow.  I broke down and bought a helmet from one of them while I was in last only because I wanted to hop on the bike.  I paid about $50 over a standard internet buy and $100 over a fleabay buy.

The dealer I use is very good. If you can find the same item on the internet they will almost always meet that price. If there are some items (luggage items come to mind) that you would like to check out, they will probably order it so you can check it out ... unless it is some real oddball off brand item, they can usually sell it if you don't buy it. And when I order parts, they always tell me when they should be in .... I have never had to ask ... they have even called to let me know if the item has been back ordered or will be delayed.

Rowdy,
you've got a point. I do miss those days when I'd ride out there a dozen times to find out that the last parts people had called and told me my parts were in when what they meant was they hadn't ordered them yet but they'd get around to it.
Frustrating.
But it was an excuse for a ride.

We have a Honda Powerhouse nearby in Lancaster NY. I stopped in for an oil filter, as I had oil on hand. I said, "what the heck, give me two of them". $26 dollars for two oil filters! Geez, I can buy two Chrome filters for my Fathers H-D and it's only $20.00. I am convinced it's Power grab, not Powerhouse. This is only the last visit, before that they charged me as much for the Kuryakyn throttleboss as I paid for the set of grips.
I thought Harley had the racket all to themselves.

IF the dealer or whoever, CAN sell the item for the internet price why don't they?
instead of you having to do the leg work.
i guess that means if you don't KNOW the internet price is lower, they stick it to you?
