I'm still skeptical. The photo has a very "Thomas Kinkade" quality to it and I've seen fakes with backstories before.

But I hope I'm wrong. If real it's a pretty amazing shot, both for it's symbolism and composition.

That's probably as close to proof as you can get that it's been photoshopped.  Taking a cue from Feaux News.

These days it is tough to take a really astonishing photograph without someone claiming it was photoshopped.

How about weighing in on this one.

Trying to determine if a photo was manipulated is very difficult when it is low resolution.  Both of these photos are less than 100 DPI, so there isn't much to go on.  It's like the blurry photos of a dot in the sky claiming to be a UFO.  The chance that these photos are "enhanced" is probably pretty good, but impossible to say from these examples.

Nice to have patriotic pics & god smiling on people, but I am a bit of a cynic and don't think many bald eagles cruise around cemeteries looking to land on headstones.  Pic is certainly patriotic, but doubt the authenticity.

Photoshop is great for things like this.  But i am a nonbeliever.   Smiley

Because if it's not real then it's just another manipulative piece of phony art. You shouldn't need fake photos for inspiration. There's enough of the real deal out there to keep you inspired for the rest of your life...

So if it's fake, it's kind of insulting.

For that matter, read a few great books on the subject. Ghost Soldiers by Hampton Sides, Where Men Win Glory by John Krakauer, To Kingdom Come by Robert J. Mrazek, The Night Stalkers By Michael J. Durant and Steven Hartov, Blackhawk Down, Band of Brothers etc.

One of the last times I rode down this road (Old Salkehatchie River Road south of Charleston SC) I
passed a Bald Eagle standing right beside the road, hanging out with four or five vultures. I wouldn't
be surprised to see one anywhere.

How do you know whether or not I complain about p-shopping in porn? Actually, I don't bother with Playboy for that very reason. So yeah, I kinda do. As a matter of fact, I get most of my skin fixes from egotastic and that's almost all candids.

Think maybe those vultures you saw were just waiting around for some poor motorcyclist to come flying down that road and hitting all that loose gravel??  Looks dangerous to me.  Wink

Photos are commonly used for two things: art, and representing factual data, like a crime scene photo.  It is common for photo art to be digitally manipulated, as it’s almost expected these days, but when a photo is used to document an event, it is taboo to modify it.  Many “motivational” pictures represent themselves as factual data, when in fact they are simply artwork.  That is what bothers me.  I think a lot of manipulated photos started out as artwork to represent a viewpoint, comedy, or emotion, and then ended up being represented as factual data by a propagandist.

I certainly don't give a rat's ass if this is a photoshop rendering or not.  Also, do not understand how pointing out that it is likely manipulated art is somehow unpatriotic or has anything to do with being in the military.

Oh, by the way,  USN for a few years and patched up quite a few marines, so Semper Fi back at you.  cooldude

Exactly, if it's manipulated and presented as art then that's fine. If it's manipulated and presented as a genuine photograph then that's out of line. That's just how I feel about things like this in general.

And I don't see what having served has anything to do with it. A fraud's a fraud. If this image is a manipulated image (and I don't know that it is) then it's profoundly disrespectful to present it as genuine considering the subject matter.

Bobbo. You are right on the money. There is nothing wrong with a photo illustration. I use them all of the time. But a photo is supposed to be a mechanical recording of a visual event. It is the documentation of a moment in time. Passing off an illustration as a photo is lying. It is claiming that something existed that did not.

Whether or not it is photo shopped is irrelevant. However it was produced it was intended to express the relationship between patriotism and sacrifice. It is an art form, real or manipulated.

I don't post on here much, since I work driving a tanker with hazmat 5 and sometimes 6 days a week.  Arguments like this is the reason I don't post much on the main board.  I never ceases to amaze me what kind of bull is stirred up, and this is one of many examples.  Was it live or was it Memorex???  Who cares???  Its the content of the picture, not who or what was done to manufacture it.  Grow up ya'll.  I'm so thankful I live in North Texas.  We don't have these kind of "discussions" there on the Texas Board.  So go ahead and ridicule me for my opinion.   tickedoff
Am I an a**hole?  Maybe.  Opinions vary Grin  The Pics were great, no matter HOW they were done.

Mark, I get the point of the picture. I just have an issue with it being passed off as genuine photograph if it's not.

since you asked me Anvil, I think a person could appreciate a photoshopped picture as it is an excellent way to show a backstory, an emotion and a message

why put fruit on your cereal?
why put milk or sugar in coffee

why put chrome on a Valkyrie

But I did like the pics you posted above with the soldiers, very moving

1st is real  2nd I am told is a composite

next someone will be telling me that refrigerator girl is photoshopped
