What makes it a Collector bike ??

I have an '82 CB900F and was wondering if anyone knows about collector/classic plates ??

Also, do Insurance company's have a different rate if it's a classic/collector bike ??

I'm in the process of refurbishing the bike .... next year it will be 30 years old !!

In Texas it only has to be 25 years old (IIRC). But those plates restrict its use. You really need to check into your location's laws if you plan to actually ride it. What makes it a classic? Just being old.

I guess I wasn't planning on riding it .... for fear that if I dumped it.  It has the factory Hondaline fairing that would be next to impossible to replace. I would just like to enter it some local bike shows possibly .... maybe keep it in the living room

Antique/Classic/Collectible are different in PA and they probably are in your area as well (not sure where you are from or I would have Googled it).  I have a '73 Honda CL350 that I registered as an Antique (over 25 years old) and I don't have to get it registered or state inspected annually, like my Valkyrie.  I am supposedly limited to how much I can drive it tho, for shows/parades/etc etc... to once a week I believe (but some weeks I don't ride it, others I ride it a few times).   Pa defines Antique/Classic/Collectible as .... (but it may be different for you)....

Definitions
A. “Antique Motor Vehicle” - a motor vehicle, but not a reproduction thereof, manufactured more than 25 years prior to the current year which has been
maintained in or restored to a condition which is substantially in conformance with manufacturer specifications.
B. “Classic Motor Vehicle” - a motor vehicle, but not a reproduction thereof, manufactured at least 15 years prior to the current year which has been
maintained in or restored to a condition which is substantially in conformity with manufacturer specifications and appearance. Any classic motor
vehicle registered under Section 1340 (relating to antique, classic and collectible plates) on the effective date of the amendment to this definition which
fails to qualify as a classic motor vehicle pursuant to these provisions may retain such classic registration unless another type of registration is applied
for and issued for the vehicle.
C. “Collectible Motor Vehicle” - a reconstructed motor vehicle, but not a reproduction thereof, substantially modified from the manufacturer’s original
specifications and appearance and maintained in a collectible condition as determined by the Department of Transportation. NOTE: Generally,
substantial changes to the engine and exhaust systems must be done to qualify the vehicle as a collectible motor vehicle. If the extensive changes are
other than engine, be sure to give very detailed and specific information in Section C on the front of this form. In addition, the vehicle must primarily be
used for show and must appear to be in “show” condition in the photographs submitted with the application.


And speaking of insurance... some insurance companies will not insure an Antique/Classic and some will.

Thanks for the info .... I guess I could have googled it as well. I thought it would be cool if I could put classic/antique/collector license plate on it. I've had it since 1988 and can't bear to sell the darn thing .... lots of memories and places.

AZ has copper plates for any vehicles 25 or more years old. No restrictions on use. Drive it everyday if you want.
